Our San Diego and Pasadena offices are seeking Water Resources Engineers to assist with the successful development and execution of stormwater modeling and analyses for a variety of innovative projects located through California. This is an engaging and high impact professional position where the successful candidate will be working closely with national and industry leaders to support our clients with:

Green infrastructure (GI) and stormwater best management practice (BMP) design

Water quality assessments

GI policy and compliance strategy development

Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses

Integrated stormwater master planning projects

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides critical technical support for Tetra Tech’s projects and the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Stormwater BMP modeling and design

Watershed-scale hydrologic assessments

Water quality modeling

Geospatial analyses and mapping

Data-driven decision making

Report writing

Key requirements of the position include a mastery of watershed modeling, hydrology and hydraulics principles, and GI and BMP design. Experience with policy related to stormwater management and water quality, as well geospatial analysis techniques is highly preferred.

The selected candidate will report to a Senior Project Manager in our San Diego office, which provides innovative services to a wide range of municipal, federal, private, and non-profit clients located throughout southern California and the US. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on work efforts with other professionals that are located both within the local offices and other Tetra Tech offices throughout the nation. Key competencies that are important to the success of the individual and the water resources group include strong communication skills, teamwork and flexibility. The selected candidate must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills that will allow for the candidate to engage in a portfolio of diverse projects and successfully work with talented people at all levels. This position offers the opportunity to apply critical problem-solving skills and provide creative solutions to the most current water resources issues, and rewards individual initiative, resourcefulness, collaboration, and adaptability.

B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Hydrology with 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience; or a M.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

Experience in sizing, siting, and design of GI and BMP facilities, including bioretention, permeable pavement, sediment basins, infiltration galleries, and others is required.

An ability to formulate and solve advanced problems related to water resources issues and BMP design is required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to summarize engineering and model analyses in concise and understandable language is required.

Experience with modeling/design tools, such as EPA-SWMM, SUSTAIN, TR-55/TR-20, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS, and ARCGIS, is preferred. Experience using LIDAR data is highly desired.

Experience in developing design specifications for a variety of components of BMPs, including soil media depths, soil media mix specifications, permeable pavement specifications, inlet and outlet configurations, pretreatment components, and general vegetation components is preferred.

Experience in evaluating and demonstrating compliance with stormwater policy (i.e., MS4 Permits or TMDLs) and/or BMP sizing criteria for municipal or federal agencies is preferred.

Strong skills and proficiency with Microsoft-based software, including MS Access and Excel, and ability to develop and execute macros for data analysis is preferred.

A licensed PE in the State of California is strongly desired OR eligibility to obtain a license within 24 months is preferred.
