The role will also work cross functionally with the SBU VPs to ensure alignment and the best solutions for the Category team.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategy and VisionSet strategy and direction of the Category Enablement Team of 50 associates to execute the business in the most efficient and sustainable manner.Support organizational (Sales, Marketing, Category Management, and Business Development) leadership alignment and execution of long range requirements and key initiatives that support growth goals of Category.Actively cultivate thought leadership on Category Management and shares that through the organization to build capability and understanding of \u201cCustomer First\u201d for Category.Own the vision of Category Enablement as the market continues to evolve and make necessary adjustments based upon market changes, technology implications, customer needs, and competitive position.\u00a0Functional LeadershipAccountable for the Operations function to include three COEs under the leadership of a Director level: (1) Pricing and Cost Maintenance, (2) Vendor Management and (3) Sales Support and ProgramsAccountable for the Data Management COE (under direction of a senior manager)Responsible for communication of the status of Category Operations and Performance to company leadershipPartner with Category Strategy leaders on internal and external projects. External-facing projects include collaborative efforts with vendors on innovative solutions.Create process rigor and continuity through creation or documentation of standard operating procedures and business operating principles.Addresses escalated issues that may impact the Category Management organization or execution.Meet or exceed performance measures including financial, service, reliability, quality, innovation, and growth commitments; responsible for team achievement of department key result to targets, efficiency and cost reductions.Responsible for Category Enablement budget, including a formal plan for future investments and projected ROI.Key Leader in the improvement of P2P (Procure To Pay) processesOptimize team structure,\u00a0identifying critical roles, and managing the performance and development of the team.Champions engagement throughout the team keeps a pulse on say, stay, and strive for the Category team.Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC\u2019s missionParticipates in special projects and performs additional duties as required\u00a0EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:Bachelor\u2019s degree in Business\/Marketing\/Management or related discipline is required; MBA preferred.Minimum 15 years of experience in a key management role with responsibility for strategic planning, operations and budgeting.Minimum 10 years of experience in Category, Merchandizing, Product Management\/Marketing or related field.Experience leading a team of Managers \/ Manager of Managers\u00a0SKILLS:High level of ethics and personal accountability.Strong leadership, vison setting, and business acumen to set strategic directionCommunication, influencing, and collaboration skills in a cross-functional environment; proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing rolesDemonstrates courage, including the strength of character and maturity to ask tough questions, hold people accountable, and deliver an impact.Proven examples of delivering step function performance and ability to develop visions, strategies, etc. while managing reasonable riskHighly developed verbal and written communication skills, including presentation experience requiredProven track record in attracting and developing talentEarns credibility with internal and external customers.Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders;Able to prioritize requests, and propose effective cost\/customer service alternatives when necessaryAbility to synthesize data and make timely decisions with good judgment required.Ability to show judgment in developing new approaches and resolving issuesPrior successes in major change role as both architect and leading implementation.Able to actively participate at a leadership level on multiple projects concurrently.Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization can effectively and efficiently move through transitions.\u00a0MISCELLANEOUS:\u00a0A valid state driver\u2019s license and the ability to travel 15%-20% of the time is required\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Why MSC \u00a0People.
