LOCATION

U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll (USAG-KA) is located in the Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) approximately 2,136 nautical miles west-southwest of Honolulu, Hawaii. Kwajalein Atoll is a crescent loop of coral islands whose attendant reef encloses an area of 1,100 square miles one of the world's largest lagoons. The USAG-KA supports more than 1,400 residents, who are comprised of military personnel, Army civilians, contractor employees, and family members. These residents live on the islands of Kwajalein and Roi-Namur.

SCOPE:

The Veterinary Technician is responsible for assisting in the care of animals. Under the direction of the Hospital Administrator, the Veterinary Technician will provide veterinary services which may include preventive medicine services, animal wellness exams, vaccinations, health screens, health certificates, minor surgical procedures, treatment and other authorized procedures on government owned and privately owned animals.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHSi is recognized.

**This position is notional and contingent upon contract award.**

Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have completed a two-year American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program

Maintain a current license, credentials, certification, or registration in at least one state in the U.S.

Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience

Possess and maintain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Proficient in speaking, writing and reading English.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform and/or provide direction and support for the following services:

Examine POAs, wild or other animals maintained on, or introduced onto military installations, and advise on control and handling

Perform laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as routine hematological tests, urinalysis, fecal and heartworm tests

Perform routine daily tasks, such as feeding, weighing, and taking the temperature of animals

Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments.

Maintain and inventory of supplies for clinic operations

Perform routine dental cleanings on animals.

Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.

Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.

Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces, such as urinalyses and blood counts, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.

Ensure all cats and dogs are microchipped. Manage microchip program

Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.

Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.

Fill prescriptions, measuring medications and labeling containers.

Maintain clean examination rooms, treatment area, kennels and cages

Provide continuing education and public information programs

Maintain veterinary records

Participate and advise in Mass Casualty Exercises/Events

Other duties as assigned.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Requires the ability to be granted a Secret Clearance.

Must have a valid US Passport.

Performs duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy.

Participates in and supports safety meetings, training and goals.

Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.

May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
