GDIT is seeking an Epidemiologist to perform the following tasks and responsibilities:

Plans and executes epidemiological projects and outbreak investigations aimed at identifying population based risk factors for zoonotic disease, infections and/or acute or chronic illnesses, injuries, and occupational hazards.
Defines a specific problem to be studied; conducts extensive background research of scientific and technical literature on the topic; reviews existing background data reported to military medical surveillance systems; and, documents any relevant data available from the civilian scientific community.
Designs a plan of action (i.e. project design and objectives), selecting and applying the most promising approach(es), making necessary modifications or implementing new approaches to solve novel problems.
Documents trends, rates, and relative impacts of zoonotic and infectious illnesses and injuries among the population(s) being studied and prepares results of findings.
Determines approach and alternative solutions to specific problems applying new methods, technology and other advances in the field of epidemiology.
Conducts outcome analysis to evaluate interventions of preventive measures to determine their efficacy.
Demonstrates proficiency in the management and maintenance of computerized databases generated from projects or outbreak investigations.
Statistically analyzes and interprets findings from these databases bringing significant results or major problem areas to attention of the Government Task Lead.
Supports the Military Working Dog (MWD) centralized data repository, and veterinary medical biosurveillance operations for both the military and beneficiary animal populations.
Works with the lead for the One Health centralized MWD data initiative to consolidate all MWD data sources into one combined data system through collaboration and coordination with key stakeholders for the creation of a new epidemiologic database.
Responsibility for independently planning, reporting, help coordinating necessary teamwork, and managing survey data for related outcome analysis, zoonotic diseases, infectious illnesses, injuries and occupational illness and injury of military working animals.
Prepares technical reports for dissemination within military medical community channels; writes technical guidance documents for veterinary medical data management and surveillance;  
Prepares scientific summaries for presentation at major scientific professional meetings and symposia; and, writes scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Expected to interact with other APHC Directorates and Divisions, as appropriate, for analysis of medical surveillance data and preparation of submissions for publication in appropriate media.

Masters level education in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, or public health.
2-5 years of related experience in scientific research and analysis.
