Urban Planning Lead

Mountain View

As a member of the Real Estate team, you are a jack-of-all-trades on the front lines of Google's physical expansion. Google cannot grow without you. A critical thinker, you are part of a team with a wide range of responsibilities including lease administration, real estate transaction management, and the design and construction supervision of our next and ever expanding offices. You help manage the spatial requirements for a workforce that is growing at lightning speed to ensure that the job is not only done to Google's high and industry-setting standards, but also in a way that promises long-term sustainability and care for our world's resources.

Our planned mixed use districts and individual buildings at Google are aspirational, they are part of a larger urban fabric that have become increasingly important as we create places where Google and the communities around us can thrive. They are the physical embodiment of our culture and inspire our employees to deliver equally ambitious products and services. As the Urban Planning Lead in our NorCal Real Estate Development organization, you are responsible for working with Google leadership, development services, urban design and other internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders such as government planning departments on urban planning and entitlement coordination with respect to our master plans and vertical buildings to be developed.

Just as Google products always focus on the user, Google offices focus on the Googler. From state-of-the-art green construction projects to maintaining our resident T. Rex skeleton (named Stan), the Real Estate and Workplace Services team builds environments that keep Googlers feeling inspired and energized. We're a team of inquisitive and energetic real estate, construction and facilities operations professionals that are constantly searching for new ways to improve workplace efficiency and make Google a great place to come to work everyday.

Establish a long term vision and roadmap for our developments (places) that are aligned with Google’s requirements as well as the unique needs of the local community where we reside. The Urban Planning role will work closely with urban design, transportation, environmental, and other other key planning considerations.

Move projects through the planning and entitlement process, serving as a point of contact with community stakeholders as required to bring aspirational projects to fruition. Strategic communication with senior City planning staff on existing and future projects for efficiency and ensure approval deadlines are met. Provide leadership presence at government and municipal meetings to gain support and confidence from elected officials and city staffs.

Set aside preconceptions of successful communities and seek to understand Google’s vision as well as the requirements and political nuances of each community.

Provide direction to multidisciplinary teams on large scale community projects and help these teams execute Google’s vision. Create and enable cross functionality across the organization. Respect the culture of Google but introduce change where necessary. Willingness to enter into the unknown, innovate, learn, and achieve results. The role will require coordination of consultants associated with urban planning and entitlement approvals.

Articulate and clarify the design vision. Focus on and be able to paint a larger picture and perspective and maintain a holistic perspective across physical projects and organizational units.
