Why join Cigna?

Cigna's mission is to help the people we service improve their health well-being and sense of security.

Are you the kind of person who wakes up in the morning wanting to help people? Are you working for a place that empowers people like you to advocate and stand up for their customers in every decision they make?

Here at Cigna, our customers are at the center of everything that we do. Every day, we strive to make our customers’ experiences easy, reliable, and personal in ways that are proactive and empathetic.

We are looking for people who are committed to helping themselves and others improve their health, well-being, and sense of security. We are on the search for talented individuals who have passion, experience, and motivation to make a different in the lives of customers.

Underwriting at Cigna:

If you’re looking to use strong analytical and math skills in a competitive, fast-paced environment, an Underwriting career at Cigna will allow you to do all this and more.

Underwriters evaluate the risk of insuring a potential Cigna customer and use that information to set premium rates for insurance policies. As part of our Underwriting team, you will directly impact our business on a daily basis, protecting Cigna‘s sound financial position which enables us to meet our financial commitments to our customers.

Entry-level training classes are available in both the Cigna Group Insurance and Cigna Healthcare (Medical and Dental) businesses. The full time underwriting programs are an extensive learning opportunity that guides your experience through the early stages of your Underwriting career. The programs include a mixture of instructor-led classroom training, self-study, and on-the-job experience.

The programs will include approximately six to eight weeks of classroom training and three to six months of on-the-job training and experience. The training programs provide thorough education on Cigna products and services, insurance basics and risk dynamics, underwriting and risk selection, results oriented book of business management, negotiation skills, systems and tools, and contract language and terms. The knowledge and skills that the programs provide will set you up to be a successful Underwriter at Cigna.

Career Path:

Upon completion of either program, you will be part of the team responsible for determining the appropriate premium rate level and plan design structure of individual cases, analyzing total case profitability, and conducting customer negotiations with Sales and Account Management on their book of business. You will also have the opportunity to build successful, productive relationships with matrix partners within Cigna, while receiving continuous training and mentoring until direct supervision of work is no longer warranted, based on demonstrated performance.
