The Underwriting Analyst (UA) supports both Regional Accounts (1,000-4,999 lives) and National Accounts (5,000 lives) business.  The functions the UA supports are: pre-sales, renewals, customer reporting, PAR Accountings, system testing, and training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-sale

Reviews RFP submissions and census for completeness and accuracy.  Requests missing information from the field.

Interprets group life, long-term disability, short-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment, accident & critical illness contracts/booklets to create ratings based on the inforce plan design, to develop manual rates.  Highlights any discrepancies while utilizing independent thinking skills to propose alternate plan designs as necessary to closely match plan designs.

Initiates consultative huddle discussion with the Underwriter to gain clarity on any outstanding questions and review proposed plan designs.

Reviews experience information and inputs required data into pricing tools to develop formula rate.

Summarizes information, highlights area of concern and makes recommendation to Underwriter

Rerates and re-runs pricing tools as necessary in order to produce accurate formula rate.

Completes and inputs metric rates into appropriate tracking systems for reporting purposes.

Consistently maintains 95% target and above 90% accuracy for delivering ratings by assigned due date; 100% of ratings are due within 1 day after due date.

Renewal

Requests current census from field and checks for completeness and applies data integrity elements; escalating when viable census is not received.

Compares renewal census with current premium and experience reporting to identify any discrepancies and note any concerns.

Reviews current plan and researches and applies any plan changes from prior renewal

Reviews experience information and inputs required data into pricing tools to develop formula rate.

Identifies and troubleshoots discrepancies as needed.

Initiates consultative huddle discussion with the Underwriter to gain clarity on any outstanding questions, summarize the renewal information, highlight areas of concern, and makes recommendation to Underwriter

Rerates and re-runs pricing tools as necessary in order to produce accurate formula rate.

Populates Renewal Letter template

May answer questions; provide/verify information, price plan changes, rates, services, etc.

Completes and inputs metric rates into appropriate tracking systems

Also, supports the Association Renewals each month in addition to the CORE renewals.

Responsible for timely renewal delivery to Underwriter by the end of the month prior to the renewal field notification date.  

Inforce Account Support

Prepare customer reporting on annual, quarterly, monthly, or one-time adhoc basis as requested for National Account Customers.

Participate in 18 month waypoint meetings and prepare appropriate case reporting.

Prepare PAR Annual Accounting for all PAR cases on the book.  Underwriting Analyst completes the PAR accounting templates and tools and then provides to the Underwriter for accuracy review.  Some of the PAR Accountings require custom templates/tools and Actuarial consultation.

Supports our Preferred Client Program Renewal Program (PCP) – Provides a full renewal work-up (shown above) for cases that are eligible for our PCP program.  For these cases, the Underwriting Analyst supports all functions listed above and also updates the rates in the Underwriting system releasing to the Underwriter to review for accuracy.

Upon product and system enhancements, the Underwriting Analyst provides initial technical expertise in the project phase and once implemented offers system/tool testing and troubleshooting support.  

Training

Provides ongoing training/mentoring of newly hired Underwriting Analysts

Leads team training huddles/refresher sessions','!*!

Solid MS Office Knowledge (Microsoft Excel formulas, sorting, v-look-ups, pivot tables)

PowerPoint knowledge preferred
