Technical Services Engineer - Electrical

Plains All American is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering and Integrity Technical Services group.


The duties of the Technical Services Engineer are generally described as the following:

Assists in the preparation of the RFP documents for power distribution centers, reviews quotes for technical compliance and manages construction of power distribution centers within company guidelines.

Participates on projects teams as the electrical lead with involvement in all electrical aspects of the projects, from conceptual and financial, through design, construction and commissioning.

Reviews technical documents to ensure they are in compliance with engineering standards and industry practices.

Develops or reviews time current coordination studies, relay settings, load flow studies and arc flash analysis on existing and new electrical systems.

Reports project status and performance data as required to management and stakeholders.

Assists Environmental, Health and Safety with training on electrical safety standards.

Check the accuracy, completeness and quality of any aspect of the electrical system on projects or at existing facilities.

Provides operations technical support on motors, medium voltage variable frequency drives, instrumentation, low and medium voltage distribution equipment and trouble-shooting issues.

Reviews and proposes facility upgrades for reliability and/or efficiency.

Assists in the update and utilization of Technical Standards.

Assists or lead efforts in “Trouble-Shooting” equipment issues

Travel to field locations is estimated to be 30% of time. Department members will have a heavy workload, with unplanned overtime and changes in work priorities, multiple projects with short turnaround time are common.



Knowledgeable in industry codes and standards (NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API).

High and Medium Voltage Switchgear and Motor Control Centers with operating voltage ranges from 5kV to 138kV.

Experience with SKM-PTW software.

Experience with medium voltage variable frequency drives and induction motors.

Candidate must also have strong communications skills and be able to function well on teams.


Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four year college.

Minimum experience level would include three years of work on varied industrial and utility power projects.
