Building 8 brings together world-class experts to develop and ship groundbreaking products at the intersection of hardware, software, and content. We have a clear mandate to ship products at scale. In particular, seemingly impossible products that define new categories that advance Facebook's mission of connecting the world. The Building 8 team will apply DARPA-style breakthrough development at the intersection of ambitious science and product development. It will operate on aggressive, fixed timelines, with extensive use of partnerships in universities, small and large businesses. The Product Launch Team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs and delivering them to market at scale. Building 8 seeks a Systems Performance Engineer who has experience in architecture and product realization of complex consumer electronics devices. We are looking for a slightly impatient individual willing to face down their fear of failure to accomplish bold things. This is a full-time position based in our Menlo Park office.

Required Skills:

Drive across-the-stack performance and power bottleneck analysis and resolution

Deliver acceleration analysis for Caffe2 based models

Prepare infrastructure to compare different performance/power footprints of various SoCs

Enrich and evangelize performance tools portfolio expanding visibility into various system components

Practical application of various performance profiling tools in gathering empirical data to refine performance and performance models

Influence system architecture and future roadmap

Minimum Qualifications:

BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field

Understanding of industry standard benchmarks for measuring performance paired with an understanding of which parameters drive customer facing performance

Ability to make trade-offs of power, performance, and cost to define the best possible system to meet the overall requirements

Understanding of the impacts of memory architecture, NoC/fabric architecture, and compute distribution

Preferred Qualifications:

Passion for Facebook’s mission

Familiarity with performance optimization of neural network models in embedded domain

In-depth understanding of heterogeneous compute concepts

Hands-on experience with performance analysis and optimization in embedded systems
