POSITION SUMMARY: Evaluates and treats patients with movement dysfunction and pain resulting from injury, disease or other health related conditions. Treats disorders with physical agents and methods to assist in restoring normal function after illness or injury. The Lead Physical Therapist oversees the mentoring of new hires and supervision of students. The lead physical therapist demonstrates clinical expertise above and beyond academic training and in an area critical to the hospitals mission and rehabilitation programs. Participates in the therapy council, departmental and/or rehab-wide process improvement activities. Will participate and promote positive team interactions to ensure quality patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration. POPULATION SERVED: Population Served: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: cardiac/cardiovascular, neurology, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary, CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, soft tissue injuries, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Performs Assessments and Re-assessments: Assessment of patient is completed according to unit policy and professional standards of care. Collects appropriate and accurate subjective and objective data. Performs an accurate evaluation, assessment, treatments, plan of care, and goals, which are individualized to the specific patient. Re-assesses patient per dept policy; takes appropriate action based on patient case scenario---according to current standards of clinical practice. Formulates appropriate assessment/reassessment. Potential discharge needs are identified and documented.2. Treats Patients: Selects and applies appropriate physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of clinical practice. Selects and utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment program when indicated, in order to maximize patient progress.3. Documentation: Completes documentation on the same day that treatment was rendered. Documents on all appropriate forms. Documentation is accurate and meets generally accepted professional standards.4. Supervision: Appropriately directs the activities of PT\u2019s, PTA\u2019s, PT technicians, students and volunteers. Ensures that treatment plans and documentation are carried out correctly by PT\u2019s, PTA\u2019s, PT technicians, and students. Initiates corrective action (in conjunction with supervisor/director) when individuals supervised fall below standards.5. Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, patients who may benefit from Rehab Services but who don\u2019t have orders.6. Quality: Participates in continuous quality improvement and program development as assigned, to include but not limited to: data gathering, chart reviews, recommendations, and implementation of quality assurance action plans.7. Department Compliance: complies with department Policy and Procedure, Safety/Infection Control Plans/OSHA guidelines Employee handbook, and standards of regulatory bodies (JACHO, Medicare, CARF, etc.)8. Must be able to work independently, complete task without supervision and demonstrate independence with decision making and problem solving in job related activities. Exhibits regular, predictable attendance in accordance with departmental policies and able to manage time demands effectively. Demonstrates flexibility to changing work environment or responsibilities and must be able to function in emergency situations. Works with staff, supervisor, manager, and director to promote service excellence in patient care, maintains a positive attitude, consistently viewed as a high performer, effective solution-oriented communicator and maintains a positive and fun work environment9. REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONSLicensed by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners BCLSREQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEBS/BA in Physical Therapy2 years previous experience in Physical TherapyPREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESKnowledge of Physical Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology 3-4 years previous Physical Therapy experience in acute care, rehab, and/or outpatient Bilingual in English/Spanish
