JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Maintain and execute simulation models of power systems to project electric energy market prices in support of business planning and long-term resource planning efforts (“Production Cost Modeling”) on behalf of the Entergy Utility Operating Companies.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Support development of integrated resource plans (“IRP”) for the Entergy Utility Operating Companies *Provide decision support analytics relating to investments in generation supply alternatives *Provide analysis and recommendations concerning the evaluation and selection of long-term (greater than one year) supply-side proposals *Support internal capital approval processes and regulatory certification processes relating to proposed long-term resource additions by providing analysis and advice relating to strategic rationale, risk, and economic justification *Design, perform, and interpret variable production costing simulations using optimization software *Produce and analyze variable supply cost results in large relational databases to explain cause and effect *Work through conceptual ideas to define problems and solutions in a dynamic power market *Participate on and lead teams of other personnel, departments, and business units to develop innovative solutions in a professional and diverse organization *Develop, present and defend findings and recommendations to peers and management based on detailed models and complex analyses *Function as an integral member of the planning team in an open respectful environment that provides challenging and meaningful work and opportunities for personal growth

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education requirements

*BS/BA in a technical field such as Engineering, Math, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Accounting

Minimum experience required of this position

*Strategic Portfolio Planning Specialist I: 0 - 2 years professional experience *Strategic Portfolio Planning Specialist II: at least 2 - 3 years professional experience *Strategic Portfolio Planning Specialist III: at least 4 - 5 years professional experience *Sr. Strategic Portfolio Planning Specialist: at least 6 years professional experience

Minimum skills required of this position

*Relevant industry knowledge and experience *High level analytical skills; very effective communication skills *Requires command of technical discipline, thorough understanding of analytical methods, strong analytical tool kit including highly functioning spreadsheet skills; fully functioning knowledge of relevant planning and decision support models; knowledge of research methods; thorough knowledge of relevant power markets;  thorough knowledge of relevant market mechanics and protocols; knowledge of commercial practices pertaining to power transactions; thorough knowledge of applicable aspects of utility regulation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*Experience using electric market simulation software (e.g. AURORA, PROMOD, PLEXOS, GE MAPS or similar commercial electric market forecasting models) *Capability to develop and utilize relational database queries (e.g. SQL, or similar) *Capability to develop and deploy solutions using MS Excel VBA *Knowledge of transmission system modeling and security constrained optimal power flow models (e.g. PowerWorld, PSSE, or similar commercial electric power flow simulation software) *Familiarity with organized power markets such as regional transmission organizations or independent system operators (e.g. MISO, or other Day 2 markets) *Understanding of concepts related to economic commitment and dispatch of electric power generation units within constrained systems

Work Conditions:

Primarily in an office environment. As a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties.
