Sr. Global Product Engineer

Responsibilities:

The Engineer, Sr. Global Product is responsible for the quality, regulatory compliance and safety of Private Brand products sold and sourced in all Office Depot countries of operation. This position supports Global Quality Assurance operations and personnel responsible for ensuring Private Brand products meet customer's expectations and comply with country of destination regulatory requirements.

This position supports the strategy for complying with increasingly complex regulations applicable to the broad range of Private Brand products to be distributed in a multitude of countries. Similarly, the strategy includes the quality management of private brand products throughout their life cycle (from design review, manufacturing control, distribution to customer acceptance). The Sr. Engineer uses quality engineering tools to effectively minimize the risk of poor quality products throughout each stage of the life cycle and impacts the following activities: design review, specifications, factory qualification audits, laboratory testing (example: performance verification, claims substantiation, national brand equivalence, regulatory/safety certification), manufacturing control, pre-shipment inspections, change management, customer complaints/general liability analysis, forensic engineering, and disposal regulatory requirements.

The Sr. Engineer works with outsourced global quality and regulatory compliance companies contracted to qualify and monitor the continued quality and regulatory compliance of Private Brand products. Develops cross functional procedures in cooperation with merchandising, legal, supply chain, public relations and the various Private Brand functions to effectively manage PB factories and product/package quality.

Support Office Depot's Global Quality Assurance strategy and operations including the sourcing and distribution of Private Brand products. This includes working with regional/ in-country personnel responsible for product/package quality and regulatory compliance.

Support global/region specific, cost-effective quality operations to prevent quality defects and regulatory issues. Implement product life management procedures to ensure Private Brand products meet customer's expectations and Office Depot merchandising strategies. Leverage global spend on outsourced quality services and activities conducted by in-house personnel or manufacturers.

Partner with quality assurance foreign sourcing office operations to support direct import sourcing, establishing procedures to minimize the risk of importing low quality or non-compliant product.

Manage global contracts with outsourced laboratories and quality service providers. Develop strategic relationship with service providers for factory and product assessment, testing, inspection, and data management. Similarly, manage licenses/registrations/compliance activities with both private sector and government agencies requiring safety/performance verification, labeling and hazardous chemical compliance.

Ensure customer-focused, data-driven, risk-based process controls are developed appropriate to business needs. Work with the GSO Engineering team to implement process reporting and management to ensure effective, timely, and cost effective quality operations.

Participate in appropriate industry/government standard development activities affecting Office Depot product lines. Develop crisis management procedures to react to alleged quality/safety incidents involving private brand products; this includes recall planning and execution.

Establish a foundation for Private Brand continuous improvement projects leading to greater process control, cost reduction/avoidance and productivity improvements. Scope of projects include product/process improvement and factory development activities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 10 years experience in Manufacturing, engineering, quality, retail/sourcing, product liability

Certified Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Auditor, Six Sigma green belt
