POSITION SUMMARY - can work from any of the following Aetna offices: Amherst, NY, Plymouth, MN, or Downers Grove, ILA Database Administrator Level 5 individual possesses expert design and database administration skills. Support focuses on the data architecture consulting, data base design, implementation, and maintenance of physical data models and databases. Key activities include access method analysis, application consulting, performance tuning, device allocation, data organization, security, and statistical methods, including the development and monitoring of standards and procedures affecting models, database management, design and maintenance. This individual is proficient in the utilization of DBA toolsets and at least 4-5yrs experience with MarkLogic DBMS or other NoSQL technology. He/she is a recognized leader with respect to the usage of best practices and in mentoring his/her peers. Exhibits very strong technical and leadership skills.Location: This position can work from various Aetna offices: Amherst, NY, Plymouth, MN or Downers Grove, ILFundamental Components:DATABASE DESIGN: - Participates in and provides input to the logical data modeling process in order to ensure that business requirements are translated into a valid database design.- Reviews and signs off on data architecture components of application design. - Interacts with cross-functional teams on designing, building, deploying, and maintaining high availability, robust, resilient and supportable database solutions to support large volumes of data transactions on NoSQL MarkLogic server and RDBMS IBM DB2 Server.- Employs relational, object, and star modeling database design principles as necessary in translating a logical model to a physical design that supports the business requirements. - Uses logical data models to create and maintain physical database designs which meet identified business needs and provide adequate safeguards for security and integrity. - Performs administrator functions on NoSQL and RDBMS databases such as MarkLogic, IBM DB2, DataStage, and any open source equivalents.- Provides data administration support of the development and maintenance of production and non-production database environments for distributed applications on NoSQL MarkLogic server and RDBMS IBM DB2 server. - Working with a data modeler, leads access modeling sessions to complete physical database design requirements. - Leads the physical database design process. - Ensures databases provide required functionality to meet identified business needs. - Ensures databases are high quality, cost-effective, maintainable, and contain solutions that can be leveraged. - Participates in data architecture requirements discussions and recommends usage of appropriate database and data management technology (i.e, DBMS, MQ, Data Propagator, DRDB). DATABASE IMPLEMENTATION AND MAINTENANCE: - Implements databases for testing and production. - Monitors capacity and performance for test and production databases to ensure they are highly reliable, efficient, cost effective, and provide the required functionality. - Analyzes database performance and implements sophisticated changes as necessary to meet application needs in accordance with corporate directives and service level requirements. - Performs service management through the fulfillment of complex service requests.- Performs configuration management to provide a logical model of the IT infrastructure for all configuration items.- Ensures that test and production databases are properly backed up and recovered when necessary. Design, implement, maintain, and automate the appropriate backup and recovery architecture as required. - Reviews current and future Database technology capabilities and suggests technology replacement as appropriate. - Participates in the development of standards and practices for the database environment.
