Job Summary:

Provide social service support to patients, families, and their caregivers to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Research and  refer  patients, families, or care givers to community resources to assist in managing their illness and facilitate access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, home health care facilities, etc. Services include, but not limited to; educating patients and families, counseling, and making referrals for other services as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Works with internal and external departments at all levels to ensure smooth customer service operations and satisfactory resolution of patient/care giver requests.

The Social worker will receive inbound calls from patient, care givers, and physician offices.

Must be able to process requests providing resolution or escalate cases to appropriate agencies to obtain assistance

Follow up with patients to ensure appropriate training received, problem  resolution,  and customer satisfaction

Display compassion and advocate on behalf of  the patient and their family

Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team

Ability to complete multiple activities while utilizing excellent customer service skills

Communicate clearly in both written and oral communication

Documents adverse events and product complaints into database

Maintains all patient confidentiality

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.','!*!Minimum (Required) Qualifications: (must be met in order to perform the job at the required level)

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work required or related field such as psychology or sociology.

Knowledge of Medical Terminology

1 to 3 years of experience working for a healthcare insurance company, drug reimbursement call center, a physician’s office, social services, or a home health care company

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications, read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals, resolve problems independently, and speak effectively before groups/customers or employees of an organization

Pro-active self- starter with experience in researching available services and agencies to assist clients with any issues.

Strong computer skills required; data entry, proficiency with Microsoft Suite software, type at least 40 WPM.

Strong attention to detail along with the ability to multi-task and comply with competing regulatory requirements

Experience in developing and preparing action plans in addition to consulting with patients and care givers to resolve complex issues.

Preferred Qualifications: (if above and beyond the minimum required)

State of Kentucky Certification;

LSW – Licensed Social Worker

CSW – Certified Social Worker

LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Social worker certification through an accredited or government sponsored social work institution / association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Knowledge of health insurance benefits and drug reimbursement issues and claim adjudication process, private insurance, Medicare/Medicaid billing and coding; also knowledge of navigation through the prior authorization process.

Physical Demands: May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day. May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day. May be necessary to work extended hours as needed. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Visual acuity to see and read fine prints. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal voice sounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role.
