Key Responsibilities

The individual filling this position will be responsible for their assigned facility’s sourcing group and will possess the ability to manage people and priorities within a matrixed organization to ensure the uninterrupted supply of products and services in support of the plant.  Will be tasked with managing all phases of sourcing for commodities assigned to the department across the SBU utilizing PPG’s Category Management and Strategic Sourcing Process.  Will ensure that all commodity spend is successfully leveraged across the Aerospace organization.  This position will have a direct impact on the profitability of the SBU. Will manage and mentor the staff encouraging professional growth & development while driving increased team performance.  Will establish and maintain good working relationships within the SBU to drive achievement of business and department goals.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Develop and administer an effective commodity and supplier strategy for the procurement of all goods and services in the most cost effective and timely manner, ensuring quality and delivery consistent with company standards.  The function will typically include – but not be limited to:

A.      Select sources by conducting commodity surveys, interview, supplier facility surveys and 

Utilize cross-functional teams, while meeting sourcing initiatives.

B.      Gather and present data to suppliers, internal customers and other PPG managers.Facilitate communication with potential suppliers for RFQ process, analyze and validate quotes or proposals from suppliers.

C.     Coordinate and partner with internal functional teams and preferred suppliers, to identify target costing, project criteria, as well as supplier criteria to help build a robust supplier partnership and supply chain.

D.     Negotiate and implement agreements and contracts.

E.      Develop, write and implement annual Procurement Plans to support operational requirements.

F.      Facilitate cross-functional support for strategic sourcing decisions.

G.     Implement strategies which support Plant, Group and Corporate metrics.

H.     Communicate significant market shifts and supplier issues to all internal customers.Interface between the suppliers in the country / region of activity and Group globally to ensure supply quality and compliance with required standards is assured

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

·        Bachelor Degree (4 years - Accredited College) or equivalent experience – emphasis on technical degree preferred.

·        3 years of commodity management experience in Aerospace.

·        Experience in working in engineering or manufacturing position experience is preferred.

·        Good project management and communication skills.

·        Full proficient in both written and spoken English.

·        Strong negotiation skills.

·        Skilled in the area of Supplier Management, such as contract management, sourcing process management.

·        Supplier development knowledge is also a plus, (e.g., 6 sigma, PPAP, APQP, etc.).

·        Needs to have experience with international sourcing (e.g., Asia, Mexico, etc.).

·        Must possess knowledge of capital equipment acquisition, consumable supplies, chemicals, polycarbonate, acrylic, machining, casting, turning, and sheet metal fabrication.

·        Some oversea travel required.

Manage 10 to 25% of purchasing spend across multiple commodities.

Interface with corporate and plant management to sell strategies and negotiations.

Interface with senior level supplier management to negotiate and implement strategies.

Manage and mentor less senior personnel to facilitate implementation of strategies.
