Job Description

The Information Management Support specialist will provide Information Management support at the Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group (MCTOG) MAGTFTC. The preferred candidate will be responsible for maintaining the Command's Information and Knowledge Management Strategy (IKMS), Information and Knowledge Management Plans (IKMP), and the GCE IKMP template. This effort involves a continual interaction with organizational personnel and external personnel (in the provision of GCE IKM support) in training and use of C2 and information systems, Microsoft applications, third-party applications and systems, and in an analytical capacity to discuss and learn the information system needs.


Assist the IKMO in the maintenance of the Information and Knowledge Management Strategy (IKMS) using concepts, tools, techniques, and procedures from the information and knowledge management fields of study that are relevant to a military environment.

Determine processes and procedures to satisfy Commander's Critical Information Requirements.

Publish and update the information and knowledge management matrix.

Develop, review, and validate mission critical information and knowledge exchange requirements, procedures, and processes.

Conduct C2 and information systems implementation planning, providing support to the MCTOG exercises.

Develop, implement, and assess the organization's data collection and reporting needs.

Determine the most effective means of meeting data collection and reporting obligations.

Establish new information and knowledge products as required, improving the ability to search and access needed information and knowledge products.

Develop, issue, and enforce IKMS Policies within the command.

Support development of training unit IKM Plans.

Facilitate the command change management processes and lead the functional development for the maintenance and enhancement of the IKMS.

Design communities in support of knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer requirements.

Provide content management expertise in support of the IKMS.

Provide training support to the staff and operational units on IKM policies and strategies.

Develop IKM related case studies, SOPs, TTPs, briefs, and other documents as needed.

Submit periodic reports and metrics as required by the command.

Support the Ground Combat Element (GCE) development of IKM competency by participating in training exercises both inside and outside the continental United States.

Conduct information and knowledge assessments to identify gaps.

Participate in meetings and conferences to provide IKM insight and identify KM initiatives.

Develop a culture of acceptance of organizational learning, continuous learning, and knowledge management.


Bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, computer science, operations research, management information science, or related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing, or information technology is required; Master's degree is desired. A combination of education and experience that develops the desired skill sets is considerable.

minimum of 3 years’ experience in a military training and education environment. Attendance to or completion of relevant nonresident technical courses is preferred.

Must have experience with database management systems and structures.

Must possess thorough knowledge of the Microsoft office suite, online collaborative tools, social networking tools, and content management systems.

Must possess knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and command relationships at MAGTF or joint/combined command level as measured by actual operational force employment experience is required, and direct participation in real world operations is preferred. • Familiarity with Marine Corps doctrine and contemporary strategic, operational, and tactical operations that govern MAGTF operations and processes and possess a working knowledge of information and knowledge management concepts and practices.

Excellent written and oral communications skills (including the ability to express/translate/document technical material in lay terms).

Exceptional telephone and customer service communication skills.

Ability to research complex issues and develop comprehensive reports.

Knowledge of industry standards, techniques, and procedures regarding information and knowledge management in support of the MCTOG information infrastructure through appropriate technical courses or communities of practice.
