Senior Welding EngineerFairbanks Morse Engine - Oxford, MA
Responsible for all Welding Processes for Production and New Product Introduction (NPI). Responsible for developing solutions to Production/NPI issues relating to materials, processes, and tooling. Supports new programs through the development of new processes, tooling design and machinery, and the development of production controls. Appropriately sets up new equipment to ensure satisfactory and safe operation. Will train other employees in the proper use. Develops and implements Manufacturing Procedures, Standards, and Operation Manuals. Will create a Preventative Maintenance Program for all welding equipment. Will lead all NPI weld projects thru completion for FPQ/PLQ.
Provides technical support and direction to the operation by providing timely feedback for optimizing quality, efficiency and cost.
Coordinates testing and maintains welder certification records.
Develops and assists in developing weld processes, including RSW.
Establishes and maintains weld process records.
Develops recipes for in-house Heat Treat and Brazing.
Determines root cause and corrective actions for welding process deficiencies.
Leads or assists in troubleshooting welding processes for NPI and production teams to eliminate production losses, improve quality, and decrease lead time.
Improves process capability of production by applying sound engineering principles to reduce variation, and lean principles to reduce waste.
Customer involvement during qualifications and troubleshooting.
Establishes training documentation, standard operating procedures and trains team members on the correct use of process control systems.
Leads and facilitates cross-functional, collaborative teams in business improvement and development initiatives using PP&E standards and guidelines to optimize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the process.
Drives improvement efforts based on analysis. Analyzes processes to identify areas of improvement and provide appropriate analytics to facilitate business effort prioritization. Conducts basic statistical analysis
Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
10 years’ experience
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints and customer design specifications sheets.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Orbital welding knowledge
Robotic programming knowledge (ABB a plus)
Experience with high temp alloys and dis-similar material welding a plus.
Worked with Design Engineers for Tooling/Fixtures for work holding.
Strong documentation skills.
Accuracy and attention to detail a must.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Skilled in analysis and problem-solving.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge and/or training in Lean Principles (Green Belt or higher a plus).
Familiar with Heat Treat and Brazing knowledge a plus
