The Sr Engineer role is a Network role within Drug product Technologies, Process Development with linkages to the Technology Automation in Operations (TAO) and Site Process Development teams.


Oversee the development and implementation of machine vision applications that will lead to improvements in qualitative and quantitative drug product inspection activities in Operations, with the goal of improving efficiency and standardization in our Network. Primarily in AML (Puerto Rico facility).

Standardize and advance the state of the art of machine vision at Amgen by optimizing optical imaging systems, along with developing hardware and image analysis software.

Identify and address current manufacturing and inspection issues and advance technology investment opportunities, vendor selection, equipment acquisition and validation.

Serve as a vision engineer for Amgen machine vision global infrastructure.


Doctorate Degree Engineering


Master's degree Engineering and 3 years of Engineering experience in industry environment


Bachelor's degree Engineering and 5 years of Engineering experience in industry environment

A Travel requirement of at minimum 25% would be required as part of this role.


Educational background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Experience in an industrial setting.

Well-grounded in linear algebra, optics, cameras, illumination, lenses, sensors, etc. and supplemented with electronics and image analysis and automation in a controlled environment as well as having a strong knowledge of statistical techniques.

Track record in installing, improving and supporting automated inspection machines such as Bosch, Seidenader, Innoscan or Brevetti.

Experience with vendor collaboration and vision troubleshooting.

Design and implementation of optical imaging hardware, including the use of optical system design software.

Competency in C#/C . Other languages can also be considered such as Cognex (VisionPro), Keyence, Mathlab, .NET, Halcon, Systech

, etc.

Experience in 'Machine Learning' or 'Deep Learning'.

Proven track record in development and implementation of software and hardware for sensors and automation applications.

Experience in optimizing software and system performance would be extremely valuable ideally within a Pharmaceutical or Biopharmaceutical setting.

Organizational and project management skills

Technical problem solving (hardware as well as software)

Communication (written and verbal) skills

Ability to work in teams and adapt to a rapidly changing environment, serving multiple customers and vendors.

International experience and a proven track record of collaboration in an international environment would be important for this role.

Language skills including Spanish language

Analyze defects and troubleshoot existing machine vision systems

Perform online and offline inspection and vision controlled positioning
