The Senior Director, Corporate PR and Communications is responsible for developing strategic media

relations and communications plans to advance TIAA’s business priorities and growth objectives, protect

and enhance TIAA’s reputation, and drive awareness of TIAA with external audiences.

This person will provide media relations and overall communications support in issues

management, M&A activities and other strategic corporate activities. This individual will also serve as a

critical integration point from the Corporate PR and Communications team to Nuveen media relations,

marketing and investment teams, the Corporate Governance team, and Regulatory Affairs.

This individual must have a deep understanding of financial services as well as the industries and clients

that TIAA serves, be comfortable providing communications counsel to senior management, and have a

proven track record for setting communications strategy and navigating complex corporate issues.

This individual must have demonstrated success in working in a highly matrixed organizational model

and managing internal teams and external agency resources.



Play a lead role in issues and reputation management.

Serve as TIAA’s lead media relations/communications person on Corporate Governance.

Identify external positioning opportunities for the company including those related to regulatory

and legislative issues across all media (traditional media relations, events, original content,

social media).

Serve as Corporate Communications lead for annual meetings.

Serve as digital strategist for TIAA executive presence on social media channels, includingoverseeing the CEO’s LinkedIn Influencer program.

Develop proactive media relations and communications plan to position the firm’s assetmanagement prowess with media that reach TIAA institutional and individual clients, with aspecial emphasis on creating a proactive program to position socially responsible investing.




A minimum of 10 years of public and/or media relations and communications experience required

BA/BS degree required


Direct and relevant financial services experience, including public relations, employee communications and other communications roles

Deep understanding of business growth strategy and experience leveraging strategiccommunications to advance enterprise growth goals

Ability to build and execute communication programs for multiple stakeholders, across a varietyof communication channels

Demonstrated understanding of TIAA’s business, market and competitive landscapes

Track record of success collaborating with agency partners

Experience and demonstrated level of leadership serving as a senior communications counselorfor senior leaders on proactive programs, issues management and executive thought leadershipplatform building

Experience working with and influencing business partners and key constituents by providingguidance and direction on communications activities

Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well and build consensus in a team

environment and interact effectively with other senior‐level employees and outside contacts,

including clients

Critical thinker and self‐starter who is willing to work proactively to identify key businesspriorities, opportunities and threats, and work across teams to implement necessary solution

Organized individual capable of working in a fast‐paced and fluid environment; understanding ofwhen to operate with urgency and/or escalate matters

Strong oral and written communications skills

Ability to work unpredictable hours when necessary, as well as be available for travel
