ROLE SUMMARY The Worldwide Research & Development Business Development (WRD BD) Lead for Vaccines, Oncology and Immunology & Inflammation will be a key leader within the WRD BD team. She / he will be responsible for building external relationships with potential partners and executing preclinical/early stage transactions for Pfizer. A team of experienced BD colleagues will report to this role. The individual in this role will be responsible for understanding the RUs' priorities, aligning with category strategy, Triad/Tetrad leadership, and partnering closely with Pfizer colleagues responsible for deal sourcing activities and for later stage transactions in these areas. When early stage transaction opportunities are identified, this individual will ensure appropriate prioritization and resourcing of projects, oversee professional development and deal leadership opportunities for her / his team, and lead execution of BD transactions. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES * Lead and oversee the execution of preclinical and early science BD transactions, including M&A, licensing, option, research collaboration, academic, and co-development/co-commercialization deals across the Vaccines, Oncology, and I&I RUs * Partner with the relevant Chief Scientific Officers (CSOs) and RU leaders to understand RU strategies and priorities, ensure communication with and feedback from category leaders, provide input from the external landscape, and establish clear goals and priorities for preclinical BD opportunities * Partner with the Pfizer Innovative Health (PIH) BD Group Leads in Vaccines, Oncology and Immunology & Inflammation to ensure alignment, prioritization and resourcing of key projects * Manage team of highly experienced and independent colleagues, ensuring professional development and leadership opportunities for team members * Work with and guide the WRD BD Centralized Agreement Team (CAT) on agreement requests as needed * Manage and streamline deal governance process and ensure compliance with corporate procedure; establish process and timelines to manage execution of transactions in a timely manner * Partner closely with External Science & Innovation (ES&I) colleagues to oversee cross-functional due diligence teams, monitor external opportunities that are aligned with business priorities, and ensure new data is reviewed as it becomes available * Knowledgeably represent Pfizer in discussions with current and potential partners or other external audiences; demonstrate collaboration, creativity, and responsiveness with all potential partners; maintain, cultivate, and build relationships with companies and broadly within the biopharma community * Build and manage collaborative relationships across the Pfizer organization and create internal alignment * As an integral leader within WRD BD, actively participate in and support the WRD BD Leadership Team * Lead and support initiatives to manage and continually improve the Worldwide Business Development (WWBD) function and develop its colleagues and culture QUALIFICATIONS * Preference for advanced science/medical degree, legal degree and/or MBA/equivalent; bachelor's degree required * Prior experience required working closely with, advising, and presenting to senior leaders on business development and/or strategy * Minimum of 10 years related business experience, including experience leading and/or significantly contributing to collaboration, licensing, partnership, M&A, or other relevant transactions * Prior experience presenting the business and scientific case of biopharma deal opportunities to cross-functional leaders * Innovative, independent, clear, and critical thinker; highly resourceful; creative problem solving skills * Strong relationship building skills * Strong negotiation capabilities; ability to persuade/influence and effectively gain agreement/consensus * Strong and effective verbal and written communication capabilities * Demonstrated ability to deliver quality results within tight time constraints * Experience managing teams of experienced/independent colleagues preferred * Experience in vaccines, oncology and/or immunology and inflammation therapeutic areas is preferred but not required OTHER REQUIREMENTS Ability to travel 25% or more NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Currently located in Cambridge MA, New York NY or willing to relocate is highly preferred.
