Senior Derivatives Analyst - Treasury Accounting','FIN0009680','!*!The Derivatives Analyst – Treasury is responsible for the accounting and disclosure of GM’s automotive treasury activity that is managed centrally in Detroit.  Such activity may include debt (internal and external), derivative positions, corporate risk management liabilities (such as product liability) and cash transactions.  The position is fast paced, requiring an individual that can operate independently under tight deadlines and is comfortable with a wide range of responsibilities.  Strong teamwork is essential as the analyst will interact frequently with many groups including GM Treasury, SEC Reporting, and individuals at GM’s operations globally.  The Derivatives Analyst’s initial responsibility will cover the accounting, reporting, analysis and disclosure of their respective treasury activities.

The position is part of GM’s Treasury Accounting team which has overall accounting and control responsibility for derivatives activities.  

Key Responsibilities

Global process owner for derivatives accounting

Perform monthly accounting close including recording journal entries and reconciliations using the global treasury management system (Wall Street Systems) and valuation analysis.

Prepare, consolidate and review 10Q/10K footnote and MD&A disclosures.

Prepare accounting white papers, training presentations, accounting policy documents, senior management summaries, and educate business units on accounting implications for proposed contracts.

Review and analyze derivative contracts.

Develop / review internal and external reporting or analysis.

Support Regional and Corporate reviews.

Maintain strong internal controls.

Support global accounting policies.

Guide business units in analyzing accounting implications of business risks

Support Wall Street System upgrades, enhancements and rollouts to new units.

Perform various financial reporting and analysis activities.

Perform various additional activities within the Treasury Accounting work group.

Support preparation of accounting guidance, contract specific consultation and decision support to leadership.

Develop and present analytics to leadership.

Recommend process improvements.

Frequent contact with others outside the work group.

Manage special projects.

','!*!Basic Required:

Bachelor’s degree with major in accounting, business administration or related field.

CPA or CA required with at least 3 years of public accounting experience or equivalent industry experience in accounting.

Basic understanding of US GAAP, particularly involving derivative areas.

Experience with:

preparing and reviewing SEC disclosures and other external reporting;

drafting and reviewing accounting whitepapers;

detailed variance analysis and building solid analytics; and,

journal entry posting and month-end close process.

Basic Preferred:

Technical accounting experience related to derivatives

Ability to quickly understand complex transactions and provide direction to treasury team and accounting leadership regarding impacts on accounting, reporting, processes, and controls.
