This person will be a vital supporter of expanding proteomics capabilities and align with Protein Engineers, Structural Biologists, Biophysicists and Genomic Data Scientists to enable a deeper understanding of our molecular targets, and ultimately support engineering of novel protein variants with improved target properties relevant to the project teams. Our team supports the Biotech product development pipeline and product stewardship by providing biophysical and functional characterization of proteins, development of new protein functional assays, biochemical characterization of insects and insect resistance mechanisms, and mechanism-of-action studies of insecticidal and other lead pipeline proteins. The team is also responsible for insect proteomics as well as discovery and verification of protein identity through mass spectrometry. This position will be assay development-centric and we are looking for a highly motivated candidate who has a strong academic background in the biological sciences.Responsibilities include:• Identify and implement current and emerging MS approaches internally and/or via industry/academic partnerships• Design, develop and implement MS experiments and communicate results effectively to collaborators to support protein engineering of new insecticidal traits• Operate and maintain different types of LC-MS/MS instruments• Collaborate closely with protein engineers, structural biologists, biophysicists and project leads • Align with data scientists and enterprise IT architects to develop tools for rapid proteomics data processing, visualization and timely decisions','!*!Required Education and Skills/Experience:• Minimum of a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline – OR – Minimum of Master’s degree with a minimum of five or more years of experience• Minimum of three or more years of hands-on research experience with applied mass spectrometry-based techniques• Prior experience in proteomics• Prior peer-reviewed publication in the field• Hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of LC-MS/MS instruments• Excellent experimental design, communication, organizational skills and great work ethic• Capable of learning new concepts and techniques at a rapid rateDesired Education and Skills/Experience:• Strong background in HDX and peptide mapping technologies • Knowledge of automated liquid handling applied to protein mass spectrometry work-flows• Ability to characterize covalent modifications of proteins by mass spectrometry• Knowledge of software commonly used in mass spectrometric analyses• Strong background in performing quantitative mass spectrometry based strategies including isotopic labeling, isobaric tagging, SILAC, and/or label-free analysis (DIA, PRM/SRM)• Prior experience with product development• Academic background in Biology and/or Biochemistry • Experience with membrane proteins• Familiarity with biophysical techniques such as SPR, ITC, DLS, and/or TSA• Familiarity with structural biology methods such as X-ray crystallography, NMR and/or ER • Proficient in scripting languagesWho is Monsanto?
