Weyerhaeuser, in Cottage Grove, OR, has an immediate opening for a Safety Manager. This position is salaried, exempt. Pay is competitive, and depends on experience. Total compensation includes a generous benefit package.

The Cottage Grove Lumber operation is located approximately 30 miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and consists of a log yard, sawmill, planer/finishing department, and shipping department. This facility operates 7 days a week 24 hours a day, receiving logs and shipping product 5 days a week with 206-220 hourly employees and 18-22 salaried employees.

Key Functions, to be performed safely:

* Actively lead and personally participate in the plantwide safety program * Role model for team members appropriate on-the-job behavior, integrity, fairness, and positive work attitude * Ensure safe work environment * Engage in process improvement * Provide safety support, coaching, and feedback/direction * Work successfully within a union environment with union-selected safety leaders * Set safety strategy * Facilitate plant-wide safety committee meetings * Develop and implement written procedures and programs to include: LOTO, fall protection, confined space, hearing protection, forklift, respiratory protection, dust abatement * Develop behavior-based safety programs * Interface with worker’s comp, injured employees, and nurse case managers * Serve as a subject matter expert * Prepare for and oversee internal and external audits * Promote and manage change

Job Requirements:

* Wear all safety equipment and obey all safety rules * Exhibit and role model safe work practices * Be able to work in extreme temperatures, in dusty and noisy conditions, work from heights, and in confined/restricted areas * Be able to lift 2-20 pounds regularly, climb steps and ladders, and stand or work from 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours * Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical upon accepted job offer * Be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

Candidate Requirements:

* 5 years’ experience in any combination of the following: * College coursework * Safety Role * Wood products experience * Leadership position * Excellent communication skills * Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on an as needed/occasional basis
