Safety, Health and Environmental ManagerGreif Inc.
Responsible for safety, health, and environmental risk management function of Greif’s manufacturing operation(s). Scope of support generally falls within five key categories: 1) Regulatory compliance support, 2) Education &Training, 3) Program development & implementation, 4) Incident investigation & corrective action, and 5) Employee coaching & development related to safety/environmental performance. Position also serves as a liaison with Business Unit and corporate leaders to adhere to the company’s EHS goals and The Greif Way.
Regularly communicate and interact with operation employees to positively influence plant’s EHS awareness and culture.
Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate EHS programs.
Review, interpret and communicate EHS regulatory and policy obligations to management and operations.
Develop and implement tools and protocols for tracking and demonstrating EHS compliance.
Support and advise operations during EHS regulator inspections and/or inquiries.
Assist with the preparation, review and update of corporate EHS policies and programs for Greif’s North American operations.
Arrange and/or conduct regular talent development opportunities for Greif associates in EHS topics and content relevant to Greif.
Participate in and support safety committee meetings.
Assist with training of new hires on safety and environmental issues.
Manage third party audit findings to verify appropriateness of corrective actions and monitor timeliness of corrective actions.
Communicate at-risk EHS findings, incidents, or behavior to management and the appropriate operations.
Report any imminent threat to human health or environment to management and operations as appropriate.
In coordination with the corporate EHS department, assist in regulatory negotiations related to permitting, notices of violation/non-compliance, legal actions, and penalties.
Manage waste streams (Hazardous/Non-Hazardous) per local, state and federal regulations.
Complete local, state and federal reporting requirements and emissions/discharge monitoring. (CWA, CAA, RCRA, SARA Title III, etc.)
Incorporate and maintain safety observances, including but not limited to, use of all PPE by employees, ensuring guards and safety features are working, and promoting good daily safety practices and habits.
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree with course work in chemistry, biology, math, industrial hygiene, environmental science, health, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an industrial or plant facility. Experience in lean manufacturing a plus.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.
Ability to identify hazards and unsafe work practices, and or able to recognize process subject to safety/environmental regulation.
Ability to train employees on issues relating to EHS and to troubleshoot EHS concerns.
Good leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
