Responsibilities:

The Sports Information Director serves as the institutional representative to the media for all athletic activities. This includes but is not limited to coordinating media relations, writing and distributing press releases and media guides, maintaining the Athletics website, compiling team statistical information, and other duties as assigned. The Sports Information Director is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Johnson C. Smith University, The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for Division II.

Develop and implement a proactive media outreach program for print, radio, television and electronic/digital media outlets on the local, regional and national levels. Write and distribute news releases and statistical information to media outlets, sports publications and sports information directors at other colleges and universities. Oversee the design and production of collateral materials, including media guides, publications and game day materials for specific sports and athletic events. Travel with university athletic teams; provide information to media personnel and representatives of the opponent's sports information office about the teams. Supervise the compilation and distribution of results to news media following completion of games/athletic events both on and off campus. Ensure that workers are hired to cover the various game management functions required for each sporting event. Manage the press box at various on-campus sporting events, including overseeing the statistics crew, addressing problems of media and press box employees, and screening all public service announcements. Organize and supervise photography sessions for all. Manage content and maintenance of the Athletics website. Create and implement a social media plan for Athletics promotion and awareness on the University's official Athletics social media sites. Develop and implement a plan for Athletics electronic/digital communications including e-newsletters. Assist in coordinating special athletic events such as the Annual Athletics Banquet. Recommend financial requirements, prepare budget recommendations, monitor revenue and expenses, and report financial information to the University Communications and Marketing Director. Serve as a liaison between the Department of University Communications and Marketing and the Department of Athletics. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned in the absence of a University Communications and Marketing team member and other duties as required to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor's degree in sports management, journalism, marketing or any sports-related field supplemented by one to two years related experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign and /or other publishing software is strongly preferred. Familiarity with a website content management system and Statcrew/The Automated Scorebook or other statistical software package is strongly preferred. The equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
