As a Research Fellow with the Analytical Research department, you will participate in the development and use of technologies that provide IFF with new opportunities for profitable growth.
The Research Fellow is responsible for the development and execution of the microscopic and material characterization techniques in order to assist customers with effective scientific evidences to address their needs. This role translates observations into actionable research activities for project progression.
The Research Fellow’s primary activities include the planning and execution of complex research projects obtaining mechanistic understanding of key flavor and fragrance delivery systems and addressing performance issues of IFF products using SEM, TEM, AFM, EDX, IR, Flourescent Spectroscopy, thermal analyzers and other characterization techniques. This role also requires you to have strong project management skills which includes setting priorities, the development of technical approaches, creation of methods and processes to support sample/prototype preparation for analysis, execution of research plan, interpretation of data, development of next steps and providing guidance to junior scientists. Critical to your success in this role is a legacy of technical creativity and demonstrated ability to coordinate projects of modest size are expected.
This role requires the development of an expert level understanding of advanced materials characterization techniques, in-depth knowledge of fragrance and flavor delivery systems and a proven track record of problem solving skills.
Conduct bench-level experiments for research activities
20% Act as a functional representative on project and project management teams
Develop technical approaches and project plans
Analyze/interpret data, accurately document experiments, draw conclusions and provide solutions and/or action steps to support clients
Demonstrated advanced technical knowledge and proven conceptual ability
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects of moderate scope and size
Demonstrated ability to supervise lower level technical professionals
Body of work establishes this individual as subject matter expert within R&D
Able to provide expert consultation to IFF colleagues and customers
Ph.D. in Material Science or related discipline and minimal of 10 years industrial research experience
BS degree with 20 years or MS degree with 15 years of appropriate experience
