The Renewables Data Scientist will be responsible for developing programs and analytics to tackle problems related to the performance of utility scale solar (1 GW+) and wind power plants (2GW+) in order to maximize the value of these assets. The Renewables Data Scientist will use advanced knowledge of machine learning, data mining, and statistics to develop scalable programs and tools to improve performance and predictions of renewable power plants. As part of a small team, the Renewables Data Scientist will be called on to use skills and tools to create novel solutions to problems that do not have straightforward answers and collaborate with others to fill in gaps in knowledge of the team.


*Maintain, monitor, and create internal solar and wind models utilized for performance analysis, lost energy calculations, failure prediction, and forecasting. *Root cause analysis of underperformance of wind and or solar sites including gathering and filtering noisy data sets. *Implement findings into actionable alarms *Develop visualizations to communicate results of developed models to drive business decisions *Improve on existing automated data quality detection and reporting *Develop and implement a data management strategy for life of asset *Create documentation and user guides for current and future models.



Experience & Education

*MS degree in engineering discipline, computer science, statistics, mathematics or physics with significant exposure to scientific computing and algorithm development. PhD preferred. *Minimum of two years of experience in scientific computing including developing, implementing, and analyzing algorithms in the industrial or academic setting *Two years of experience explaining techinical concepts to non-experts in both written and verbal communication *Two years of experience working with complex data sets, including multi-dimensional data *Expert level command of a computational programming language, such as Python, R, or MatLab *Python proficiency *SQL proficiency

*Experience applying scientific computing concepts to real-world data sets preferred *Experience developing and deploying database architectures preferred *Experience in software development and code base maintenance for small teams preferred *Advanced understanding of PV System Modeling preferred *Basic understanding of renewable power plants and grid integration preferred

*Ability to coordinate multiple activities and ensure safety, quality and schedule adherenance. *Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others *Ability to work in difficult customer situations and communicate clearly and accurately via verbal and written methods *Ability to work in a high stress environment where decisions directly impact personnel safety and equipment reliability *Must be data driven


*Proficient computer skills using MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, and Outlook *Technical writing skills
