The Quality Engineer for Corporate Quality supports continuous improvement projects, quality documentation, data collection, reporting, and analytical initiatives. The Quality Engineer has responsibility that crosses all business units. Also the Quality Engineer is the lead for driving improvements in Scotts quality systems by implementing processes, measuring performance, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and helping resolve major issues. This is achieved through the utilization of quality systems, data collection and analysis, metrics reporting, interaction with plant associates and vendors, and auditing internal and third-party sites.

Key Responsibilities

- Improve quality of Scotts products by utilizing consumer complaint and other data/metrics to evaluate performance, identifying and responding to improvement opportunities and assess risk of current and potential supply sites.

- Develop and implement analytic tools for internal customers and partners to enable analysis of product performance and consumer acceptance to facilitate continuous improvement opportunities.

- Collect, manage, and manipulate large volumes of data and organize and present data to address specific questions and issues. Prove user friendly, data reporting formats to clearly summarize and articulate information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Own maintenance and management of quality systems and provide guidance and instruction to others in utilization of QM, SAP, BW, and other quality tools.

- Audit, review, and refine QM data collection and management processes to gain efficiencies, improve quality and compliance, and drive improvement activities.

- Provide advanced statistical analysis of quality data to identify and support improvement opportunities.

- Provide leadership and technical support to drive completion of Perfect Every Time (PET) improvement project.

- Conduct, review, and provide corrective actions for internal audits and audits of vendors and contract manufacturing sites.

- Report quality metrics on a weekly/monthly basis. Track and report performance. Recommend and drive corrective actions on opportunities.

- Facilitate waivers for internal and external production sites. Ensure waivers are communicated, approved, and documented to maintain production with approved changes.

- Manage the warehouse hold process to effectively manage quality related finished goods disposition.

- Provide support to quality team in driving systems and process improvements at internal sites, contract manufacturing sites, and vendor locations as needed. Conduct audits and identify process gaps for corrective action.

- Inspire and motivate others through a sense of conviction, energy and determination to succeed. Emphasis on constantly improving processes, products, and services.

- Ability to take on multiple projects, issues or other outside influences and prioritize them as well as execute to completion.

- Suggest and drive system and process improvement projects. Lead cross functional teams to execute projects that improve compliance systems.

Education and Experience Requirements

- Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

- Knowledge and expertise in quality management.

- Minimum 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge & Skills

- Expertise in advanced statistical methods and problem solving methodologies.

- Proficient with Excel, Google, SAP/PLM, and Microsoft Office.

- Strong data analysis skills.

- Attention to detail.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with key stakeholders to influence direction and enable decisions to make progress toward goals.

- Ability to work in an ambiguous and fast paced environment.

- Creative problem solver.

- Leadership ability with a proactive nature.
