is dependent on the ability to effectively deliver generation from its assets to its customers. JOB SUMMARY: The SPC Transmission Project Manager position provides leadership and strategic direction to a team of engineers responsible for providing transmission support to SPC's development and acquisition activities (including site analysis, acquisition due-diligence, grid analysis and nodal modeling) in order to provide transmission service plans that result in low cost and reliable transmission interconnections. The successful candidate will understand the electric industry and wholesale markets and will be able to quickly learn different Transmission Provider's processes and Market structures, rules, and trading products.  This position also works closely with various organizations across Southern Power and must be able to effectively communicate complex subject matter clearly and concisely with a diverse audience.  Infrequent travel will be required. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  Lead/perform/coordinate transmission support for SPC, including:Review, organize, and analyze team's study input/output data to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and to gain client consensus on project decisions.Maintain relationships with client personnel to understand their business, anticipate and confirm their needs, and assess the quality and value of services provided.Supervise and provide effective performance management.  Recruit, train, and develop a team of transmission engineers/analysts.Support strategic project development and evaluation by coordinating with siting, business development and acquisitions to provide transmission service plans that result in low cost and reliable transmission interconnections, including:Lead group to evaluate sites using industry standard planning tools (PSS/E and MUST) to develop strategic and creative proposals and solutionsLead the interconnection and transmission procurement processes for all projects from original assessment to commercial operation. Ensure thorough knowledge of tariffs, interconnection queues and transmission service processes across all markets in the continental USProvide technical leadership of development and conceptual design of interconnection facilities and costs including major switchyard and transmission line projects.Provide insight, strategies and competitive intelligence by evaluating the interconnection queue processUtilize nodal modeling value assessments to assist in transmission valuation of development and acquisition opportunitiesAsset Acquisition Due DiligenceReview interconnection and transmission position and contracts, deliverability, FERC and Transmission Provider requirements, and curtailment & congestion outlookIdentify key risks (cost, schedule, contractual, or otherwise)Work closely with Acquisitions, Project Development, Commercial Optimization and Trading and other organizations to develop potential risk mitigations and solutionsProvide transmission policy support thatParticipates in market planning processes and identifies and influences projects which can relieve congestion around operating plants.  Develop a group that is able to assess potential projects which could strategically help expand market opportunities.Promotes relationships with RTOs and transmission service providers to ensure successful execution of interconnections and operations.Stay knowledgeable of transmission policies and standards that could impact our siting efforts or operations.Provide transmission support as needed to the existing 13 GW SPC power plant fleet through effective coordination with SPC Commercial Operations and Trading and SPC O&M.JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education & ExperienceBachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred.8 Years of prior transmission experience including electric utility power system planning, transmission interconnection and/or policy and transmission operationsIndependent working knowledge of power systems analysis programs including PSS/E and MUSTPrior supervisory experience preferred.KnowledgeDeep understanding of power flow models and the ability to use these models to provide strategic direction on siting and congestion analysis.Thorough knowledge of electricity market transmission tariffs and interconnection processes throughout the continental US.Knowledge of FERC and NERC standards related to transmission planning and interconnections.Knowledge of transmission operations across the country including reliability services performed by generators including voltage control, reactive power and frequency response.Structure and operational knowledge of US power markets including both the bilateral and organized markets (RTOs/ISOs).  Understanding of key policy changes by FERC, RTO/ISOs and power pool operators that could impact transmission siting or operations.Knowledge of transmission and substation design and equipment operations.Understanding of market commercial operations, including nodal pricing and trading products.SkillsMust have excellent communication skills to communicate complex issues with executive management, market management and transmission service providers.  Must have the ability to explain complex issues and analysis in simplified terms to generate understanding and agreement.Ability to make quick decisions with sometimes limited information.  Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization.  Entrepreneurial mindset and finds ways the organization can use transmission analysis as a competitive business advantage.Ability to develop strong relationships with developers, transmission providers and market operations management.  Strong negotiation skills
