Location: New York City, NY

Company Profile:
The Center for NYC Neighborhoods (“the Center”) promotes and protects affordable homeownership in New York so that middle- and working-class families are able to build strong, thriving communities. Established by public and private partners, the Center meets the diverse needs of homeowners throughout New York State by offering free, high-quality housing services. The Center’s current projects support our policy goals and help to keep homeownership affordable by responding to the ongoing effects of the foreclosure crisis, the rising cost of homeownership, predatory scams, rising sea levels, and more extreme weather. The Center’s Sustainability and Resiliency (S&R) team helps New York City’s homeowners mitigate and prepare for the effects of climate change and rising sea levels which threaten neighborhoods along New York City’s coastline. The Center’s S&R programs promote the stabilization of neighborhoods by helping homeowners understand their risk as well as rising housing costs brought on rising tides. Our programs help homeowners lower insurance costs and achieve physical safety and resiliency. The Center is a sub-recipient of Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding from the New York State Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery to implement the Residential Technical Assistance Pilot Program (RTAPP), which provides free Home Resiliency Audits from professional engineers to help homeowners understand and mitigate their flood risk, accessible through our resiliency platform, RTAPP was recently expanded to include a subprogram called the Residential Backwater Valve Installation (RBVI) Program, which provides free sewer backwater valve installations for eligible properties in order to reduce the risk of sewage backup into homes during a flood event. The Center is also a Community Energy Engagement Program (CEEP) contractor for the New York State Energy and Resource Development Authority (NYSERDA), which promotes the adoption of clean and renewable energy.
