The Principle Data Scientist role within Humana Military is both extremely challenging and rewarding.  Successful individuals demonstrate a blend of talents and skills such as strategic thinking, very strong diagnostic and analytical skills, exceptional intellectual aptitude and ability, and imagination and creativity. In this role, the Data Scientist will work independently and in teams to drive analytic related strategy and develop innovative solutions. 

We are looking for experienced analytics professionals formally trained in a quantitative discipline to enable the organization to leverage data to drive operational efficiency and cost reduction efforts across the enterprise.  These disciplines incorporate data mining, statistical analysis, pattern recognition, text analytics, natural language processing, predictive modeling and optimization. Key Accountabilities 

Participate in dialogue with internal business partners to determine areas of opportunity where analytics can be leveraged to solve big problems

Develop and maintain productive relationships within the enterprise business and analytic communities

Develop analytical constructs based on addressing business challenges

Develop predictive models to identify operational gaps, drive process improvement and identify business opportunities

Participate in developing/selecting new data sources and ensuring the quality and reliability of the data

Measure and communicate the effect of models in production

Develop processes and criteria for analyzing and summarizing data','!*!

Role Essentials

Master’s Degree in statistics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, operations research field

7-10 years of relevant experience

Strong statistical foundation, with broad knowledge of deterministic and probabilistic statistical methods

Proficiency in at least one of the statistical toolkits like R

Programming strength in the following languages: SQL and/or Python

Ability to travel up to 10%.

Experience building and maintaining large and dynamic analytic data sets

Team-oriented and collaborative nature, while also able to work in a self-directed manner.

Innate customer orientation, with a proactive focus on collaborative problem-solving

Ability to work efficiently in teams and/or as an individual

Our Department of Defense contract requires U.S. Citizenship

Successfully receive interim approval for government security clearance (eQIP - Electronic Questionnaire for Investigation Processing)

Role Desirables:

PhD degree in statistics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, operations research field

2-5 years of relevant experience

Proven ability to effectively communicate analytics finding to broad audience, including senior leadership

Experience in manipulating and analyzing large data sets using technologies such as Hadoop

Optional programming strength in the following Hadoop tools: MapReduce, Pig, Hive, Hbase

Experience with building fraud detection models

Reporting Relationships

You will report to Director, Analytics. This area is under the leadership of the VP of Business Development.
