Power Inverter Design Release Engineer

Role Summary:

A Power Inverter Module Design Release Engineer responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing and control of engineering projects where creativity and initiative are involved as well as independent judgment. The job will entail exercising technical direction over other engineers and support personnel and may involve providing work direction to small groups with specific engineering objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead a PDT (Product Development Team)

- Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to develop engineering designs and implement engineering changes

- Deliver hardware that meets requirements on time

- Solve engineering related problems

- Release parts and subsystems for production

- Communicate project status and technical data to internal and external customers

- Travels as required (domestic & international)

Required Skills and Experience:

- High level of project management skills and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports

- 2 years of relevant work experience

- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with domestic and international business partners

- Design, development, validation or release experience

- Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with an overseas supplier

- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

- Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, electronics, physics and manufacturing methods

- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering and project management

- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

- Must be willing and able to create and present information to leadership, peers, customers and suppliers in a clear and concise manner

- Working knowledge of automotive systems

Preferred Skills and Experience:

- Experience with Bills of Design, Statement of Requirements, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and Design Reviews

- Previous experience in automotive testing and design is strongly preferred

- Working knowledge of GM Engineering Work Orders and Change Management processes

- Working knowledge of high voltage power electronic DC to DC converters, onboard chargers and traction inverters

- Working knowledge of power electronics testing and development

- Working knowledge of electronics manufacturing

- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T)

- DFSS Certification

- Experience with NX & Teamcenter AE

Required Education and Training:

- BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering

Preferred Education and Training:

- Advanced degree in engineering, business or management

- 4 years of relevant work experience
