Principal Global Investors has an opportunity for Portfolio Management Associate to join the Equities team.

The Equities PMA is a foundational role within our Equities Investment team. PMA performs a critical function of partnering with the Portfolio Managers in the trade/order implementation in our OMS, Charles River (CRMS). This will include partnering with PMs, compliance, operations, and trading desk in monitoring orders, resolution of any data/compliance issues, managing cash across multiple currencies, adherence to guidelines and compliance responsibilities and other settlement related issues.

Our PMAs help escalate portfolio issues as needed. PMAs also assist in preparation of client materials including reporting, commentary, meeting material preparation and other on-demand efforts to support clients/funds. Additional project work as directed focused on research or client supporting activities. Must have a strong acumen in learning technology as PMA needs to be “super-user” for FactSet, CRMS and other proprietary and external systems and tools. They work closely with equity PMA team to provide consistency accords straggles, function as a backup, identify best practices, refining team processes and other ad hoc projects. Exposure to all processes needed to manage a portfolio and close work with the Analyst and Portfolio Management Teams provide an excellent foundation for a career in research.

Preferred Skill Set:

Operations/Analytics experience, FactSet and Charles River (or other OMS) experience preferred.

Strong process-oriented background including introduction of controls & procedures.

Able to demonstrate keen awareness of Operational risk issues.

Advanced skills in Excel (VBA) preferred.

CFA candidate (or progress towards), ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.

Qualifications:

Required Skill Set:

Bachelor’s degree required in finance, economics, accounting, statistics or mathematics.

Must be fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin.

One or more years of relevant work experience is preferred.

High marks in quantitative coursework.

Strong mathematical and analytical skills required.

General investment knowledge highly preferred.

Proficiency with computer applications, specifically with Excel and Power Point.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tactfully, assertively and professionally handle difficult situations with clients and brokers.

This position will be located in Des Moines, Iowa for six to twelve months of training. Upon successful completion of training this position will be located Hong Kong.
