Responsibilities- Conduct research on carbon fiber, carbon-fiber/resin interface, and carbon fiber composite processes to improve performance of automotive composite parts- Resolve issues related to molding of thermoset and thermoplastic carbon fiber composite parts through theoretical and experimental methods.- Document standard operating procedures for the equipment in the lab; responsible for the proper use and maintenance of the components related to the molding of composites to ensure their optimum operating conditions.- Assist with resolving production issues when the need arises.- Perform other duties related to Lab maintenance as may be assigned.- Prepare timely high quality research reports for internal and external presentations and publications.- Consult with other employees in accomplishment of their project goals.- Generate innovative ideas, suggest new project areas and establish/execute detailed technical plans- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility- Develop corporate contacts and represent GM effectively to the external technical community- Collaborate with global technical teams and participate in technical discussionsQualifications - PhD degree required in Chemical/Materials Engineering, or related fields - Extensive knowledge in polymer physics and chemistry, and some knowledge in carbon fiber composites, and molding processes of composites- Strong theoretical and experimental skills- Previous research work experience in polymer composite field is preferred.- Ability to work both independently and in teams- Effective verbal and written communication skills- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with GM internal and external customers, including executive management The policy of General Motors is to extend opportunities to qualified applicants and employees on an equal basis regardless of an individual's age, race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or veteran status.
