Location/Position Overview
 
The Buffalo, NY facility produces Big G cereals and Gold Medal Flour. Quality is a key part of the General Mills business strategy and QRO plays the lead role in ensuring high quality, food safe products that meet our customer\u2019s needs. Buffalo has a population of about 260,000 and is located on the eastern tip of Lake Erie. Buffalo is home of the Buffalo Chicken Wing and offers many other attractions such as the Buffalo Zoo, Niagara Falls, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Buffalo Museum of Science, as well supporting two major sports teams (Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills). Buffalo is also a short distance from the Canadian border, but more specifically to Toronto. This facility offers a great opportunity to diversify learnings in new platform, to utilize and enhance sanitation skill sets, as well as offer great opportunities for people management and plant leadership in a dynamic union environment. This role reports to the plant manager and is critical to the success of the facility. This role offers a great deal of breadth, depth and accountability.
 
Accountabilities

Lead all aspects of Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory and Sanitation within the Cereal Plant AND the Flour Mill.
Provide organizational and personal leadership for the plant and QRO organization to deliver against its core mission and key measurables.
Motivate and empower QRO staff. Lead development and performance management process of 4 Quality Engineers, 8 laboratory technicians,  1 Sanitation Team Leader and 14 production employees.
Provide leadership in making quality & regulatory decisions that balance business and quality factors while ensuring consumer safety and compliance with regulatory requirements. Provide timely and appropriate risk assessment. 
Be the key regulatory contact for the plant with State and Federal regulators. Maintain positive and constructive relationship while ensuring full compliance with regulatory and GMI policies.
Provide leadership and have accountability for sanitary performance of plant as measured by internal (FSRA) and external (AIB, Corporate, regulatory, customer) audits.
Deliver on all core tactical accountabilities of a FSQ Manager: maintain balanced budget, manage lab, address personnel issues, ensure a safe & positive work environment, and manage QRO/Sanitation contractors, run analytical testing
Provide leadership in food safety with management of FSSC, FSRA, HACCP, FSMA, ZLC, and prerequisite programs
Leadership and management of key sanitation and pest control programs. Manage all aspects of plant sanitation.
Provide leadership and technical support in the areas of Quality Management with an emphasis on customer requirements, continuous product quality, and productivity improvement.
Initiate product and process improvements through the use of CI tools.
Recommend actions for improvement and assure resolution.
Conduct sanitation and product safety inspections, including HACCP.
Provide risk assessment analysis and facilitate decisions for all quality and food safety events.
Manage issues with non-conforming product to assure proper control, minimize losses and provide analysis to eliminate future occurrences.
Provide training in all areas of Food Safety, Regulatory and Quality.
Provide technical expertise to resolve problem areas.
Interface and communicate directly with the customer of your products.
Provide technical expertise to resolve problem areas.
Communicate at all levels of the organization and be the main conduit to Minneapolis on any issues for the Buffalo facility.
Maintain FSSC Certification for both facilities and continue to improve food safety and quality culture.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science or related discipline
Minimum 5 yrs experience required, strongly prefer 8-10

Ability to work with a variety of styles and job levels. For example, developing the respect of operators and mechanics in a manufacturing facility; managing interactions with Leadership team, Team Leaders, Operations Business Managers, Sourcing, Suppliers, MPLS resources and R&D.
Ability to travel < 10% of time. Ability to flex work schedule when required for Weekend on-call support and early/late work hours.
Strong ability to properly assess risk and prioritize actions accordingly. Able to manage multiple priorities and know when to pull in resources.
Understanding of product quality, risk management, food safety and GMI policy and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to apply the tools of statistics, problem solving and decision making.
Flexibility and motivation to wear many hats and able to create innovative solutions to problems with limited resources.
Ability to lead teams and to drive culture change.
Ability to develop people
