Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Contracting ManagerCIGNA - Hartford, CT
This position serves as a key participant of the pharmacy affordability team for Cigna group commercial and individual and family plans as part of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Rebate Contracting Team and will report to the Pharmaceutical Contracting Director. This role will actively participate in the formulary development process and will provide strategic direction and management of the day to day contracting and rebate activities.
Manages complex contracting relationships and negotiations for rebates from pharmaceutical manufacturers
Builds relationships that nurture vendor partnerships and seeks broader value-based business opportunities to support the Cigna Pharmacy strategy.
Initiates and maintains effective channels of communication with matrix partners including but not limited to Clinical, Finance, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Sales and Marketing.
Identifies opportunities for greater value-orientation and alignment via rebate contracting strategy.
Contributes to the development of alternative rebate/formulary initiatives. Supports and provides direction to develop rebate analytics required for the rebate solution.
Works to meet unit cost targets, while preserving an adequate formulary, to achieve and maintain Cigna's competitive position.
Creates and manages contract-related initiatives that improve net pharmacy cost and quality.
Drives change with external rebate partners by assessing clinical informatics and offering consultative expertise to assist with total net cost initiatives.
Prepares, analyzes, reviews, and projects financial impact of rebate contracts and alternate contract terms.
Assists in resolving elevated and complex rebate service complaints. Researches problems and negotiates with internal/external partners/customers to resolve highly complex and/or escalated issues.
Manages multiple rebate relationships and is accountable for critical interface with rebates and business staff.
Demonstrates knowledge of rebates through understanding the interrelationships as well as the competitive landscape.
Responsible for accurate and timely contract loading and submissions and interface with matrix partners for rebate/formulary implementation and maintenance.
Bachelors degree preferably in the areas of Pharmacy, Finance, Economics, Healthcare or Business
RPh/PharmD, MBA or MHA preferred.
Three to five years contracting and negotiating experience involving complex delivery systems and organizations required.
Experience in developing and managing key relationships
Experience analyzing and interpreting complex contracts including value based approaches
Demonstrated experience in seeking out, building and nurturing strong external relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturer partners.
Intimate understanding and experience with pharmacy and medical benefit management, including formulary development process, utilization management and rebate business models.
Team player with proven ability to develop strong working relationships within a fast-paced, matrix organization.
The ability to influence both internal and external audiences through strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience with formal presentations.
Customer centric and interpersonal skills are required.
Demonstrates an ability to maneuver effectively in a changing environment.
Superior problem solving, decision-making, negotiating skills, contract language and financial acumen.
Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office tools.
