Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Division is seeking a Paper Mill Production Manager for our towel and tissue mill in Halsey, Oregon.  This position reports directly to the mill Operations Manager and will be responsible for managing a department of over 50 employees (salaried and hourly) including many of whom work a twelve-hour shift rotation.   This position is primarily responsible for safety, quality and production of our paper machine and secondary fiber plants.  This role provides leadership and strategic direction to the facility through the application of our Market Based Management (MBM®) Philosophy. A successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills and the ability to drive change.  
                
The Halsey Mill is in the Mid-Willamette Valley of Oregon. It is near both the Cascade mountains and the Pacific Ocean coastline providing outstanding outdoor opportunities while also being close to two major universities and cities that present cultural diversity and entertainment. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

People: Effectively manage area personnel

Leading the team to meet or exceed safety, production, waste and quality goals
Accountability for employee and organizational development plans and people management strategies  
Exhibiting strong leadership skills to motivate and develop a team of salaried and hourly employees to continuously improve performance of the business
Leading and mentoring employees to apply the Market Based Management philosophy (MBM®), consistent with our Guiding Principles
Ensuring organizational structure, succession plans and individual roles, responsibilities and expectations are aligned with the mill’s organizational, tactical, and strategic goals to maximize value for the company
Providing leadership and holding the team accountable for the implementation of complete asset strategies and facilitating zone ownership strategy and operator basic care execution by transferring ownership to operators and technicians to operate, maintain and improve

 

Safety & Compliance: Commitment to environmental, health, & safety excellence

Providing strategic leadership to achieve key operation objectives in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, and cost
Acquiring and sharing knowledge of applicable standards, policies, and procedures in areas of EH&S, ensuring the department achieves compliance with corporate and governmental policies and regulations

Monitoring housekeeping, critical hazards, and safety systems
Leading and fostering a strong safety and environmental compliance culture that values risk identification and personal ownership, through a principle based approach

Operations Excellence: Manage area operations for the two tissue machines, recycled pulp plant and wastewater treatment area to achieve compliance and production goals

Responsibility for the overall paper machine and secondary fiber operations for safety, quality and reliability of the area assets and using reliability concepts (i.e. root cause failure analysis, operator basic care, PMs, etc.)
Driving mill initiatives and sense of urgency to achieve plant value driver metrics
Collaborating and knowledge sharing with other departments across mill and other levels within the organization to ensure the success of operational goals

What You Will Need:Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Paper Science or other technical discipline with five (5) years of experience in the pulp and paper industry OR in lieu of a degree, ten (10) or more years of experience in the pulp and paper industry
Leadership experience with responsibility for direct reports
Experience with pulp machining and converting processes along with the fundamentals of equipment operation

What Will Put You Ahead?
Preferred Qualifications:

Ten (10) or more years of experience in the pulp and paper industry
One (1) or more years of experience in maintenance or reliability
Five (5) years or more of recycled pulping and converting experience

Experience with tissue paper machines and deink pulp plants 

Experience managing or supervising in a union environment

Three (3) or more years of leadership experience with responsibility for direct reports
