The Information Technology Department has an opening for a PDX System Administrator. This position is located in Livermore, California.

Position Purpose

The PDX/ EPS System Administrator will partner with the Application Development, Support, Platform Services and Pharmacy Business teams to ensure all pharmacy systems operate successfully to support business operations. Activities focus primarily on managing the work done on PDX Host, ECC, LDAP and Reports (DAT and Elixir).

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain pricing, drug file, TP file, dispensing rules.

• Send and monitor successful apply of NHIN files including Medispan clinicals

• Maintain User file

• Maintain systems flags

• Monitor and manage autotasks and scheduled jobs for Host and stores

• Monitor and manage ECC

• Manage PMP submissions

• Manage end of day reports through Host

• Manage and Deploy software and configuration updates to PDX Host system

• Report writing

• Handling system and user access and maintenance

• Creating technical documentation

• Acting as SMEs for both the PDX Classic and EPS systems

• Responding to business and state inquiries on incidents

• Proactive system monitoring

• Trouble shooting and resolving issues related to task schedules, failed jobs and server health

• Project Resource

• Acquisitions/New Store Setup

• Familiar with communication with:

o Pharmacy Business Unit, including leadership team

o Cross-functional teams within IT (Business Partnership, Delivery, Application Development, Platform Services and Support

o The Pharmacy application systems vendor provider(s).

• Less than 10% travel


• 4-year degree (Computer Science, Information Systems or relational functional field) and/or equivalent combination of education or work experience.

• Minimum 4 years of experience in systems analysis, help desk support, or other systems administration type job roles

• Knowledge of Linux/AIX, UNIX and Windows operating systems.

• Experience with Shell/Unix scripting (Perl, Php, Python, Expect …)

• Knowledge of network / communications utilities (Telnet, FTP, SFTP…)

• Product knowledge

o PDX Host




• Experience with the full software development lifecycle.

• Excellent organizational and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.

• Strong root cause investigation and problem solving skills.

• Knowledge of programming documentation processes/procedures.

• Ability to understand client expectations and recognize and escalate issues that may affect delivery.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.

• Self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to learn beyond formal training with a strong aptitude for delivering quality products.

• Able to work under minimal supervision.

• High energy, results driven with strong interpersonal skills.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with more senior co-workers and leadership with confidence and clarity

• Able to energize teams through inclusiveness and connection with people.

• Familiarity with shell scripting (desired).

Company Profile:
In 1915, M.B. Skaggs, an ambitious young man in the small Idaho town of American Falls, purchased a tiny grocery store from his father. M.B.'s business strategy, to give his customers value and to expand by keeping a narrow profit margin, proved spectacularly successful. By 1926 he was opening 428 Skaggs stores in 10 states. M.B. almost doubled the size of his business that year when he merged his company with 322 Safeway (formerly Selig) stores and incorporated as Safeway, Inc. Two years later M.B. listed Safeway on the New York Stock Exchange. M.B. did not let the difficulties of the Great Depression dilute his pioneering focus on value for customers. In the 1930s Safeway introduced produce pricing by the pound, adding “sell by” dates on perishables to assure freshness, nutritional labeling, even some of the first parking lots.
