Job Description Reports directly to the Acute Rehabilitation and Sub-Acute Director of Nursing, the Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and providing a comprehensive education program based upon current state and federal regulations for all levels of staff in Acute Rehabilitation and Sub-Acute Unit. Included in this responsibility is the oversight and coordination of CRMC's commitment that its staff members demonstrate unparalleled competency and service to its customers. Supports and maintains regulatory requirements for staff competency assessment.  Assesses clinical performance in relation to established performance standards; collaborates with clinical management in identifying learning needs of staff; assesses learning needs of orientees and trainees in relation to their position performance standards. Plans orientation program to meet individual learning needs; develops objectives for each instructional program. Provides a competency-based orientation program for all categories of clinical service personnel. Conducts well planned organized, relevant, and clinically oriented programs in response to needs. Coordinates continuing education workshops. Prepares manuals, guides, and other materials contributing to improving clinical performance, updating staff instruction and the maintenance of patient care standards.  Essential Job Duties: Have an ongoing educational program planned and conducted for the development and improvement of necessary skills and knowledge for the nursing personnel. Provide ongoing education to the Registered Nurses to enhance their critical thinking and to develop good clinical assessment skills. Conducts an orientation for all new employees in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. Maintains a written orientation program for all newly hired nursing personnel. Conducts an In-service education program for all employees in Acute Rehabilitation and Sub-Acute Unit in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. Maintain and keeps the facility with a monthly and annual calendar of planned in-service education as required by law. Keeps the facility with current and approved program for In-service Education and Orientation of all the nurses. Coordinates and conducts no less than 24 hours of in-service education annually for nursing assistants on all shifts. Assists certified nursing assistants with the re-certification process through the Department of Health Services. Targets nursing staff in different shifts in providing them in-service education about problems/issues encountered, survey results and other scheduled in-services. Assures through regular observation and evaluation that nursing staff on the Unit and Licensed Nurses are proficient in the delivery of resident care and are competent to perform all necessary treatments and procedures. Consistently involved in direct bedside care and continuously evaluates the quality of nursing care delivered on the Unit. Conducts clinical rounds, identifying problems and establishing educational and training programs to meet the needs of the facility. Provides clinical rounds identifying problems and establishing educational and training programs to meet the needs of the facility. Continuously mentor and train all Nursing staff on usage of all facility software system i.e. OPUS, PACS, Exit Care, etc. Keeps track and reinforce staffs compliance in completing the annual corporate mandatory educational examination (LMS). All nursing personnel must successfully complete the examination, before the due date. Coordinates and conducts quarterly tracheostomy and ventilator competency class. Coordinates and evaluate Restorative Nursing Assistant program. Coordinates all levels of life safety programs. Performance evaluations are completed by the due date 100% of the time, including reviewing the Service Excellence goals. Evaluates and updates Staff Development policies and procedures based upon unit needs, federal and state regulations. Creates and maintains an educational profile for each employee listing attendance at facility program. Updates and keeps all employees records current i.e. Competencies, Certification, License, CPR, etc. Participates in staff meeting and IDT Conference to provide and obtain information regarding the effectiveness of educational programs and nurse's competency and skills. Re-evaluation and follow up of educational programs will be conducted based on data obtained through ongoing staff meetings and IDT Conference. Consistently demonstrates the ability to work effectively with the unit staff, physicians, families, hospital administrative team, outside resources, ancillary service personnel and manager personnel. Coordinates with resident Care Coodinator/MDS nurse in addressing patients/residents or patient's/resident's families concerns that pertain to nursing care. Actively participates in the Hospital activities i.e. Hospital-wide Skills Day, Job Fair, employee appreciation, etc. Ensures that the monthly Recapitulation of Physician Order, Medication Administration Record (MAR), Treatment Record and Restorative Nursing Assistant Treatment Record reflects the exact replica of the original order. Monitor and reinforce staff compliance with the Hospital Infection Control Program. Adheres to company standards for resolving consumer concerns/complaints involving educational and training issues. Kept and maintained staff development records. The Records shall include name, title of presenter, date of presentation, title of subject presented, description of content and signatures of those attending. Actively participates in the hospital committees i.e. Wound Care Committee, Patient and Employee Safety Committee, Skills Day Committee, etc.  Provides an accurate monthly Recapitulation of Physician Orders with a minimum of 2% error rate. Collaborates with the Hospital Infection Control Practitioner in implementing new system and processes i.e. VAP Bundle, CAUTI prevention, etc. to promote the Hospitalwide Infection Control Program Coordinates the immunization program for the employees and patients of the Acute Rehabilitation and Sub-Acute Unit. Gather and validate data as part of Infection Control Surveillance. Analyze the information gathered and notify the Director of Nursing and Hospital Infection Control Practitioner for any patterns and trends Provide accurate reports on the infection control surveillance to the Performance Improvement Committee. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in coordinating the Performance Improvement Committee. Supports the Risk Management Program as evidenced by identification of actual and potential risk issues. Provide accurate reports on the Unit Specific quality improvement monitoring and audits to the Performance Improvement Committee. Accurately completes other tasks and duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing. Job Requirements: ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS Possess good background and knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching modalities. Possess good assessment skills and critical thinking. MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE Two years experience in staff development preferred. One year of experience as a Licensed Nurse providing direct patient care in a long-term facility in addition to one year of experience planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing; or Two years of full-time experience as a Licensed Nurse; at least one year of which must be in provision of direct patient care in nursing facility. The Staff Development Coordinator must have a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluation educational programs in nursing within six months of employment. These must either be courses approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or courses administered by an accredited educational institution.
