About the Job

Responsibilities include all facets of Network Security, LAN, and WAN network engineering - design, documentation, implementation, capacity planning, monitoring, troubleshooting, enforcing standards and interfacing with infrastructure team, systems teams, application owners and vendors. Securing network systems by establishing and enforcing policies, support and administration of firewalls, and monitoring access in line with security policy. Excellent detail-oriented and methodical approach to implementation and problem solving. Ability to represent the team well, evangelize technology and effectively train and mentor others. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal) and be able to communicate complex technical information to a wide variety of individuals and groups. Must be able to write technical documentation, and perform complex vendor and technology analysis. Lead efforts with internal and external entities on complex issues to ensure network availability and stability. Support Data Center functions including design, operation, and implementation as needed.


Minimum of 5 - 7 year’s experience designing, implementing, and supporting data center hosted networks

Hands on experience with Palo Alto, Arista, F5, and Cisco.

Advanced knowledge and experience with TCP/IP protocols, related protocols and applications.

Advanced knowledge with network protocols and architecture ( BGP, OSPF, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN, VLAN, VRF, etc ).

Expertise with layer 2 switching and associated protocols, such as MLAG, STP, VLAN, VTP, and VRRP.

Expertise with layer 3 routing and associated protocols, including IGPs (e.g. OSPF, ISIS) and EGPs (BGP).

Extensive experience configuring and managing multiple vendor devices, and expertise in application of multiple vendor networking technology.

Experience with load balancers.

Experience with network security, ACLs, and implementing policy. Experience deploying tunnels using GRE and IPSec.

Proficient with advanced networking technologies such as MPLS, QOS, 802.11a/b/g/n, 802.1x and BFD.

Experience with Wireshark and other advanced troubleshooting tools.

Experience deploying and running network management tools is a plus (SENSU, Open Box, Observium)

Review and implement changes

Unix/shell/Perl/Python scripting and automation skills a plus.

Advanced understanding of change management procedures

Self-starter able to identify where focus is needed and bring clarity to requirements.

Proven ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects with minimal supervision.

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability and desire to cross train outside own area of technical expertise

Experience of prioritizing workload in high pressure and time constrained environments.

Ability to travel to Data Centers on a regular and ad-hoc basis

Ability to support physical requirements for network and server components

On call participation required

Ability to work overtime to include nights and weekends

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

As part of the Network Services team within Oracle's Global Information Technology organization, you will be responsible for the delivery of IT services to Oracle's businesses worldwide, these services include the management and delivery of network infrastructure.

Maintain (and monitor) records of equipment failure and liaise with engineers and suppliers as necessary - and recommend / implement changes to procedures and practices. Escalate client problems according to established procedures but exercising judgment in the process. Manage the network using network management tools, analyze network performance and recommend / implement network enhancements. Analyze network performance to ensure adequate bandwidth for business needs - and implement changes as appropriate. Working closely with 'global' network team / development recommend enhancements to the network infrastructure, and enhance proactive network management tool set. Troubleshoot network problems on the campus network, remote locations and the Irish wide area network though to resolution exercising independent judgment and creativity. Perform Project Engineering including specification definition, design of solution in compliance with corporate standards, implementation, testing through to production. Respond to monitor alarms to identify the root cause of an outage and coordinate the corrective action in a timely fashion. Provide technical and product leadership to management and contribute to Global IT policy. Provide on-call support services as needed and lead others in complex situations.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. 8 years relevant work experience and degree/diploma in computer science or IT discipline.
