Job ID: R-00724Position Overview:The Food Contact Materials (FCM) Risk Assessment Manager will provide subject matter expertise in FCMs and related regulatory frameworks to support innovations across multiple functions of The Coca-Cola System (TCCS), assist with the implementation of strategies necessary to ensure the safety and compliance of TCCS FCMs, curate the science necessary to support a robust FCM advocacy strategy, and proactively reaffirm the safety of TCCS FCMs by building/maintaining an external network in scientific and trade associations. This position reports to the Senior Director, Toxicology & Risk Assessment, and will be a critical part of the global FCM team.Function Specific Activities:Function Related Activities/Key Responsibilities
Support the Director of Food Contact Materials in the creation, communication and execution of scientific and regulatory strategies to address global FCM safety challenges and to mitigate emerging threats.
Provide FCM subject matter expertise to TCCS to enable solutions to scientific and regulatory issues. Act as a scientific steward and consultant by preparing responses to targeted questions from the field, other functions, business units, bottlers and customers. This includes acting as a resource for general information and gradually becoming a consultant, mentor and trainer for other technical personnel in TCCS.
Partner with cross-functional business teams to provide subject matter expertise and FCM safety and compliance reviews for global R&D projects to enable innovation and provide stewardship and governance to re-affirm the safety and compliance of TCCS FCMs.
In collaboration with global SRA colleagues, monitor and review regulatory development, identify/mitigate potential SRA risks and leverage opportunities related to TCCS FCMs and suggest changes in Company strategies and policies in response to new safety and regulatory questions on FCMs.
Participate in selected external organizations related to FCMs to influence outcomes and advance our scientific and regulatory strategies.
Education Requirements: Strong preference for advanced degree (MS, PhD) in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or related field.Related Work Experience: 3 years of experience in packaging industry, food industry, government, trade associations, or related industry in similar roles. Functional Skills:Safety and Risk Assessment: Understanding of the acceptable human exposure to potentially harmful substances in food. This includes knowledge of the nature, properties, adverse effects, and detection of materials such as food additives, ingredients, contaminants, packaging materials, and pesticide residues, and how they are tested and regulatedToxicological and Exposure Assessment: Knowledge of principles and methods of toxicology and ability to assess the impact or relevance of toxicology studies and research. Knowledge of the principles and methodologies of assessing the exposure of chemicals to animals and humans.Food Contact Materials Technology: Knowledge of the technologies, chemistry and related supply chain impact of substances used in food contact materials. Ability to assess the impact, detection and risk in foods and beverages.Food Contact Materials Regulatory Landscape and Advocacy: Knowledge of global regulatory requirements on food contact materials.
