Medical Claims Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Claims Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing technical and operational functions related to processing Life and Health claims in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practice. They are to ensure consistent delivery of quality services. They will have direct responsibility for managing associates and determining training needs. They will interact with agents, policyholders, vendors, other departments within the company, and other corporate business units. The position requires the ability to make and follow thru with decisions involving the handling of customer claims as well as departmental/personnel issues. Must communicate directly to the Claims Manager any workflow issues and suggestions for improvement in the department. They will be expected to lead change and promote a positive team attitude.

Position Responsibilities:

• Participate in the selection, hiring, training and development of assigned team.

• Assures compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and state statutes/regulations.

• Communicate Company news and changes to team.

• Review and advise on difficult or special claims cases.

• Participate in a variety of projects interacting with multiple internal departments and external contacts.

• Maintain and share daily production reports.

• Coaches and counsel associates thru change.

• Provides support, guidance, leadership and motivation to promote maximum team performance.

• Determines and directs work assignments and tasks for the area.

• Initiate and carry out disciplinary actions which have been reviewed and approved by Claims Manager.

• Develop best practices to optimize claim processing quality.

Position Competencies:

• Technical skills: computer literacy, working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

• Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, ICD and CPT codes.

• Works collaboratively to achieve organization’s success.

• Organizational skills: able to help others prioritize their work and manage time effectively.

• Problem solving: seek information and perspectives from both inside and outside the team to better understand and solve problems. Model systematic approach to problem solving.

• Open communicator: able to give clear, understandable instructions to others. Lead thru effective communication and listening skills.

Position Qualifications:

• High School graduate with five years of experience in the Claims Department.

• 1-2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
