The marketing and public relations manager plans and directs the strategy to drive engagement, build brand awareness and increase share of voice that will maintain or enhance the public image of MidAmerican Energy. They will help build an effective, credible public policy and communications strategy that supports efforts of MidAmerican Energy and ensure all content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality and tone while optimizing for specific channel and user experience considerations. This person will work with business unit teams to understand product/service offerings and messages and align them with targeted marketing/branding campaigns. This role will nurture a strong industry network, increase awareness and develop an enviable corporate image by developing and executing effective communication and public relations programs. They observe social, economic, and political trends that might ultimately affect the company and they recommend ways to enhance the company's image based on those trends. They are an advocate, communicator, problem solver and crisis manager. They support key corporate objectives and ensure the company's story is told accurately and frequently. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)Maintains a keen understanding of industry trends and makes appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them. Develops relationships with subject matter experts in issues affecting the business and works collaboratively on developing supporting communications materials. Identify and understand the needs of key stakeholders that play a vital role in the company's public policy and business and economics insights stories.  Develops communications plans including strategy, goals, budget and tactics. Working with internal teams, deepen trust with government officials, regulators and third-party organizations by forming alliances, sharing content and holding events. Create and execute multi-media branding campaigns that amplify our key messages. Builds relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness.  Drives the creation of high-quality written content, including but not limited to blogs, news releases, fact sheet, executive briefing materials, social media posts, presentations and opinion pieces. Creates content for news releases, byline articles, keynote presentations, policy papers, positioning statements, talking points and crisis communications efforts.  Leverages existing media relationships and cultivates new contacts within business and industry media. Manages media inquiries and interview requests. Develops media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, online media and social media, as directed.  Provides departmental administrative support, as needed. Works to ensure all projects come in at or under budget. Follows all company and department processes and procedures in daily work.  Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, English, journalism, communications, business administration or related field or equivalent related work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Six or more years of experience in a marketing, communications or public relations function in a professional work environment. Including three years supervisory/management responsibilities. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficient in Associated Press style. Leadership skills to instruct, provide orientation, guide and coordinate work flow. Administrative skills to monitor budgets for employee communications. Influencing skills to persuade or lead opinion through written and verbal communications and to interview news sources. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills to plan workflow, coordinate projects and resolve conflicting demands. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Basic understanding of social media strategy and communications. Proficient in electronic communications and adapts easily to new computer programs and environments.
