Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS), a division of Hubbell Incorporated, engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of transmission, distribution, substation, underground, OEM and communications products used by utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The manufacturing Manager is a leadership position with responsibility for direction and management of the Manufacturing Engineers located at the Connectors Leeds, Al plant, overseeing capital projects and managing all Connectors capital budget. This consists of direct responsibility for all Manufacturing Engineers at the Leeds, AL plant and dotted line responsibility for the Connectors Juarez Mexico plant. The Manufacturing Engineering department is responsible for supporting daily operations, improving manufacturing processes by removing waste and ensuring safety of all operations. Also creating work instructions for these processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

\tManage daily engineering support requirements and long term planning of plant manufacturing and assembly operations.
\tCoordinate activities with other management personnel.  Must have a broad view of the business and be willing to coordinate efforts in other areas as required.
\tEnsure process safety, optimization, quality and profitability.
\tMust assist the New Products team to ensure timely and successful introduction of new products while ensuring the products are designed for manufacturing.
\tKeep management apprised of progress and obstacles that constrain attainment of company objectives.  More importantly, must be able to offer proposals for overcoming said obstacles.
\tMust possess and exhibit good communication and leadership skills along with a good working knowledge of personnel practices including recruitment, professional development initiatives, goal setting, performance improvement planning, and administration of shop rules and regulations.  Tact and diplomacy are essential.
\tEstablishes and adjusts team’s work schedules to support production and project schedules.
\tDetermine and monitor departmental budget.
\tAttend and participate in production planning meetings.
\tAssists in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
\tTotal awareness of the plant policies and environment as it pertains to the safety of other employees, operation of equipment, handling of equipment/materials, and visitors required.
\tCritical to driving waste out of our production system through Lean and quality initiatives. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 7 or more years of experience in manufacturing and assembly of metal parts.  Must have practical knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems. Lean and 6 Sigma experience preferred.

SCOPE:

Directly supervises Manufacturing Engineers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
