The Manager, Financial Analysis role provides a unique opportunity for a highly analytical candidate to join the Financial Planning & Analysis team that is responsible for Liberty Mutual Investment’s $200M budget and the financial planning and forecasting of Liberty Mutual Insurance’s $85b portfolio.

In this role the Manager, Financial Analysis reports to the AVP & Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and is responsible for oversight of Human Capital and Expense Management within Liberty Mutual Investments. This role will work with business unit leaders across the front and back offices to manage their expense budgets and workforce planning.  The Manager, Financial Analysis will work with a group of Financial Analysts to oversee preparation of monthly expense analyses and prepare presentations to business unit leaders on a regular basis.  The role is also responsible for vendor relationship management, including coordinating contracts with Corporate Procurement and the Liberty Mutual Investments’ business unit leaders.  Additionally, the role oversees the maintenance and enhancements of the budget and planning software.


Manages expense budgeting process, including data management, analysis and reporting.  Develops and coordinates financial budgets and forecasts in support of Liberty Mutual Investments’ operational and strategic objectives.  Assists in the preparation of the annual budget/strategy presentation.

Manages human capital budget, including data management, analysis and reporting.  Partners with business unit leaders in workforce planning and budget adherence.

Manages, analyzes and reports on Liberty Mutual Investments’ financial results.  Financial results include direct expenses, capitalized costs, corporate chargebacks, management fee revenue and overall equity.  Analysis and reporting will also include invested asset class basis point measurement and industry surveys.

Presents business unit financial results/analysis to business unit leaders and partners with them to manage expenses.  Ensures current trends and strategic plans are factored into analysis.

Responsible for budget/planning software maintenance and development.  Ensures data is updated and reconciled timely and accurately.  Partners with information technology professionals on software enhancements.

Manages vendor management process, acting as a liaison between Liberty Mutual Investments’ business units and corporate procurement and payables departments, maintaining vendor relationships, participating in new/renewal contract negotiations and ensuring timely payments to vendors.  Utilizes ARIBA procurement to payment software system.

Reviews work, serves as technical resource, provides feedback, training, guidance and development to financial analysts and other cross functional professionals.

The actual internal level/grade for this role will depend on the candidate’s overall experience and skill level.



Bachelor’s degree required (Finance or Accounting preferred)

Advanced degree or CPA preferred

Strong knowledge of finance and investment management environments

A minimum of 7 years of financial/analytical experience

Solid understanding of accounting knowledge/skills

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to effectively manage complexity and ambiguity

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communications skills
