Job Summary

The Logistics Planner develops, publishes, and coordinates complex logistics operations and contingency plans for area of responsibility, including Project Planning Requests (PPR) for new construction projects, repair projects, and operation and facilities maintenance projects.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

Manage, control, and execute all activities associated with the development of Project Planning Estimates (PPE) and other project planning duties as assigned

Develop concept of operations report(s); Coordinate with customer/government on requirements and internal SMEs for their review of the packages and reports

Review code references for applicability, preliminary design and layout, & development of material takeoffs

Review PPR packages, present PPR packages to senior project management, and submit packages to customer

Prepare and respond to requests for information specifically from customer, while also providing technical guidance and direction as needed.

Provide guidance and leadership to the Project Planning Team

Develop and provide charter agreements with supporting functional area managers and directors, to ensure support requirements and deliverable schedules are clearly defined and resourced

Plan and initiate continuous improvement of the PPE process and follow-on execution of change orders

Analyze all aspects of the programs logistics to determine the most cost-effective and efficient means of downsizing the workforce concurrent with military downsizing and withdrawal

Liaise with the customer and other parties to ensure proper planning

Ensure a high degree of customer satisfaction by quality, on-time performance, communication, and responsiveness

In cooperation with the Contracts team, act as a technical point-of-contact for all project planning processes, estimating, and deliverables

Provide status to upper management of technical approaches and solution for all PPR and Letters of Technical Direction (LOTD) requiring estimating and planning resources

Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and other practices set forth by upper management directives and provides change input when required

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of the functions and operations of major U.S. Military Commands

Ability to serve as a planning expert with effective interpersonal and analytical skills supporting military operations

Proficient in deliberative planning, either military or civilian, for project planning request

Knowledge of Project Planning and Project Management

Complete understanding of operations of assigned contract

Working knowledge of DA PAM 420-11

Attention to details and able to handle multiple tasks independently

Effective communication ability in writing and speaking, especially for briefings and operations plans

Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Project, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint

Experience & Education

Eight (8) years of operational experience in planning and coordinating sustainment (materials and supplies) in support of logistics operations, preferably in military or defense contractor operations

Bachelor degree in logistics, operations, or associate discipline preferred

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

Living and working conditions at assignment location are remote and uncomfortable

Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions

Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
