Lean Manufacturing Manager for Micro-Irrgation Business (MIB) El Paso / El Cajon.

Please note that this position will be based in either El Cajon, CA OR El Paso, TX. The position requires travel up to 25-30% to El Paso, Tx; El Cajon,CA and Sanford, FL as well as travel to The Toro Compay headquarters in Bloomington, MN .


The Lean Manufacturing Manager will lead the following:

Lean Manufacturing: Develops and implements Lean Manufacturing strategies for Southern Plants engaged with the ones defined by Toro corporate.

Continuous Improvement: Leads integrated continuous improvement initiative.

Project Management: Serves as program manager for the consolidated kaizen projects. Responsible for application of the Toro lean enterprise.

Strategy Implementation: Initiates strategies to support manufacturing and that the facility has the capacity, technology, and equipment to stay competitive in quality, productivity, customer service, and employee/customer relations.


Lean Manufacturing

Leads lean manufacturing initiative in each of the three Toro Southern Plants and supports lean deployment in other toro facilities as requested.

Defines and implements alongside with the Operations team on-going Lean transformation.

Identifies Lean principles that can be applied to the extrusion, molding, supply chain, engineering and maintenance operations and consolidates them into a Lean strategy that can be implemented.

Provides leadership and expertise in the following specific areas of lean manufacturing—value stream mapping, 5S, cell design, flow manufacturing, SMED, Plan for every part (PFEP), kanbans, wheel change-overs, etc.

Expands use of kaizens to promote continuous improvement.

Benchmarks Lean initiatives at other Toro and non-Toro operations and identifies best practice for application at the Southern Plants processes.

Defines and coordinates Lean manufacturing training for plants personnel.

Works with outside resources to augment in-house lean expertise.

Continuous Improvement

Leader of operational & office initiatives to offset anticipated cost increases with productivity improvements.

Develops and manages improvement projects to achieve annual improvement targets.

Tracks the results of continuous improvement efforts to ensure that improvements are sustained.

Responsible for training and coaching Kaizen teams.

Strategic Implementation

Focal point for strategic initiatives and ideas.

Tracks progress to LRP commitments.

Ensures alignment between LRP and project priorities.

Captures and prioritizes opportunities.


Directly supervises up to 0-2 employees. May oversee up to 6 people on a matrix/project basis.

Managers an Operations and Project Budget—Operating.

Travel is required 20 to 30% of the time.


BS in Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or similar field. Proven history of implementing Lean Manufacturing in discrete manufacturing environments including VSM, 5S, Kaizen, cellular manufacturing, flow manufacturing, SMED, Plan for every part (PFEP), kanbans, wheel change-overs, etc.

Practical experience in project/ program management and lean implementation. Strong management, communication, and leadership skills. Should be analytical, motivated with a positive manner, and willing to work in a group/team setting.

Progressive work history in manufacturing environment demonstrating growth in position and/or responsibility.

A minimum of four years to seven of experience in Lean Manufacturing and Project Management in a discrete manufacturing setting.
