Job Summary

We are in the process of filling open positions for the combined company following CenturyLink’s acquisition of Level 3 Communications. All qualified candidates who express interest by submitting an application to an open posting will be considered. However, based on business needs, preference may be given to internal applicants on certain positions. We still welcome, and encourage, all application submissions while we continue our integration process. Internal applicants are current, active CenturyLink employees, including Level 3 employees who have transitioned to CenturyLink as part of the acquisition.

The Communications Manager supports strategic company initiatives on behalf of CenturyLink’s technology-focused business-to-business segment, including support for areas such as network, cloud and managed services. The Communications Manager has demonstrable experience in public relations, including the ability to develop and implement projects, and produce exceptional content that helps drive media coverage.

Position Objectives:

Manage public relations activities for key products and thought leadership initiatives by pitching reporters and helping develop contributed content for publication

Distill complex information into understandable concepts and language, resulting in clear, concise and persuasive materials

Track and align to appropriate metrics to evaluate effectiveness, reach and results associated with communications initiatives

Job Description

Manage the delivery, communication and reporting of consistent messages across media relations, news releases, presentations, contributed articles, speaking engagements, awards, events, rankings and surveys

Identify and pursue editorial opportunities that advance CenturyLink’s reputation and knowledge of the organization’s people, products and services

Write and edit materials such as news releases, pitches and bylined articles

Collaborate with executive leadership, marketing and sales to ensure message and strategy alignment

Contribute toward the execution of social media activities


Five to 10 years of public relations experience

Minimum three years of experience working for a communications services provider or software provider

Experience dealing with reporters at IT trades, business media and local/regional publications

Ability to work flexible hours and with a sense of urgency on time sensitive projects as needed

Ability to work well across a geographically distributed PR team and interact with a variety of internal and external customers varying in seniority

Ability to manage and track multiple projects, often with competing deadlines, as well as the intuition and resourcefulness to gather and incorporate dependable data, facts and other information from multiple internal and external sources

Strong project management skills, good judgment and attention to detail

Social media experience
