PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide high power laboratory testing services to Business Unit prodcuts and third-party customers. The Short Circuit Laboratory simulates fault conditions to validate utility product ratings. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: * Operate test equipment and perform work required in the assigned area, primarily in the short circuit test laboratory. * Read and understand industry test standards and use the prescribed test methods and procedures to perform tests. Participation in test development, execution, and failure analysis as required. * Write test reports, accurately describing the item tested, equipment used, test procedures, and test results. * Provide technical support to other members in the assigned department. * Assist with equipment maintenance in the assigned department. * Assist responsible Laboratory Manager in operation and daily routine of department activities. * Recommend and assist the Laboratory Manager with identifying and selecting needed equipment to improve the efficiency and productivity of the department. * Be an integral member of high leverage product and process qualification teams. * Plan for and coordinate all major equipment maintenance activities with minimal interruption in test services. * Position is to primarily work evening shifts and adjust work schedule as needed. RECOMMENDED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND: * Minimum two-year technical degree. Previous relevant military experience acceptable in lieu of formal degree. * Preferred previous experience with electricity, power generation, line maintenance, or physics. * Experience in technical problem solving, working in technical teams, and working in cross functional environments. * Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and Autocad and Allen Bradley PLC programming a plus but not required. * Good communication and presentation skills. * Must be a self starter with strong drive, initiative, and ability to work with limited management input. * Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestic and international.
