Provide medical exams at 60 field sites during the spring and fall to meet regulatory requirements for the Department of Transportation and the Occupational Health & Safety Administration.

Perform all on-site laboratory testing and maintain all licenses and proficiency testing as required by the State of New Jersey.

Act as team leader during field site visits to provide medical exams during Spring and Fall each year. Also be responsible for all scheduling of such exams and the scheduling of follow-up evaluations. Work closely with supervisors/coordinators at field locations to confirm dates and space allocations for testing purposes. Update Excel spreadsheets for each location and archive for billing purposes. Perform some medical testing (drug and alcohol specimen collection, vision, hearing, pulmonary function, respirator fit testing).

Perform specimen collection and laboratory testing of employees IAW regulatory requirements (DOT) and company policy including drug and alcohol testing. Perform phlebotomy and specimen preparation.

Provide all support activities [instrument calibrations (Clintek, Cholestic) and maintenance, Q.C., document control, discrepancy resolution program, proficiency testing on State specimens (NJDHHS), audit participation, response, and records management for drug/alcohol and medical testing].

Control medical waste according to State requirements.

Perform Blood Borne Pathogen training as required.

Interface with regulatory agencies (N.J.D.H.S.S., DOT) and vendor labs to assure timely services and resolve quality issues.

Update policies and procedures as appropriate.

Prepare 6 month report for DOT.

Provide administrative guidance to medical personnel and vendors related to D&A and lab testing.

Required Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, science or relevant degree.-Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists [MT (ASCP)].

2 years of medical laboratory experience.

Proficiency in Laboratory skills/practices.

Must have computer skills in MS Office and keyboard skills in data entry.

Must obtain DOT Certification within 6 months of hire.

Ability to work a modified schedule to accomodate field testing and report for early morning starts.

Valid drivers’ license. (Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.)

Certification in the following areas is essential: breath alcohol testing, Department of Transportation drug specimen collection, audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing and respirator fit testing.

Willingness to learn to administer Regulatory testing, Respirator Fitness Test and Hearing Conservation.Desired Skills, Competencies, Education and Experience:

Detailed knowledge of programs required by DOT.

Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to convey sensitive confidential information to both Union employees and senior managers.

Other Job Requirements:Shift work that may include nights, weekends and holidays is required with 40% of time traveling throughout New Jersey to work at sites that extend from Oakland to Salem. Overnight stays may be required.
